How many of them are there really? I see a first tweak and then a tweak#2. However, #2 has, as had been usual, a list of items to remove. But then it had a bunch of screen shots showing the state of his system which resulted from far far more extensive deletions. He makes no comment about the screenshots. They seem to reflect the result of a third tweak pursued by eliminating whatever is not in the screenshots. Is that right? Is this the intention? Why is there a list first, then, if one is working by what is not there in the screenshots? Makes no sense.
Anyway, I did Jolida's batch for tweak #2 and then tried achieving the screenshots. I got close but avoided winsxs further deletions and a very few other items I feared removing. I eliminated all the folders not shown everywhere and all the dlls and drivers not shown. Still I got nowhere near down to 56.3MB for windows. It was more like 570MB. I did't see where there was 500MB left that isn't in the screemshots. Can someone explain this.
Worse, I could not boot up getting a ntfs.sys is missing or corrupt message even after replacing it twice (it had been there all along). Can anyone clarify, explain or assist? (I am back to step 16 plus M1 and M2list only for now and liking it.)

Hey Riboge,
As I had mentioned earlier in a post last week, I started from the Original cMp, implementing the lists using my batch files in the following order:-

Steppe 3
Steppe 4
Jolida 1
Jolida 2
Steppe 5
Steppe 6 ( omitting xplite )
Steppe 7
Steppe 8
Steppe 9
Steppe 10

The size of the 'C' drive came down to about 68 mb here.
So just to check further, I tried Bold Fortunes batches here from it's Part 2 to Part 10.
Now the size of my 'C' drive is close to 58 mb after all the above done...
I took back ups at the above mentioned places because each of them changed the flavour of the sound from Airy to Mellow to Dynamic. So I felt its best to determine which suits best after completing the deletions & analyse them carefully with peace of mind.
It's important to do the Bold Fortunes sets with care. Especially in it's Part 5, where I did not run the Win_SxS batch, & in it's Part 10, where I had to edit his batch there, so as to NOT remove the System Folder. The Part 10 has a batch which removes the System folder, but we need it in our case where it contains winspool.drv & mouse.drv...

What are screenshots 1 and 2? I see several screenshots shown and linked to in Mihaylov's tweaks #2 posting. Is this screenshots 2? You seem to take them as an implicit further tweak while others say they just show what resulted from all the steps to that point. There are screenshots posted earlier after M's first tweak about what is shown in process explorer with cMP running. Are you calling these screenshots 1? These are shown to explain adding back the list of files listed above them not as a step of further deletions to make.
Where is it recommended to eliminate Documents and settings altogether and all the folders but 5 in windows?
Can one do the whole thing by simply starting with full cMP and reproducing screenshots 2 all at once by deleting or cutting everything not shown? If not, why not? How can the sequence matter if this is where you end up regardless?

Ooh la la. Now u r confusing me :)
Mihaylov... Please post the link to Ur screenshots once again. Both were uploaded by him to Rapidshare. Let alone all steppes, the final list of files PRESENT after all deletions in the system, is what is shown in the screenshot. It makes things a lot easier that way. All u have to do, is take a printout & go to the respective folder, drag the files that are present in his screenshot to one corner in a folder, & highlight & delete ALL others remaining. It's way easier that way because the list of files to be retained is much smaller than the one to be deleted...

Those are the ones with his second tweak. What is the other set of screenshots, since you list a 1 and a 2? I did the procedure you describe and ended unable to boot with error stating that ntfs.sys was missing or corrupt even though it was present. Can one do this right from the start and skip all the step by steps? Any idea why I got the unbootable error?
Oh yes. Absolutely !! It's way easier isn't it?? No matter on which steppe Ur system presently is in, u can follow this procedure & finish in no time. Just printout the screenshots, drag the contents present in it to one corner of a folder, & highlight-delete all others.
Please note that my system needed a few more files present in his screenshot, to boot or work flawlessly. They were a few more fonts, & sys files that I had to keep to make windows boot, Juli@ to work, & start in cMp mode...
U delete one wrong font, & windows will not boot....

Great!

Which ones? I know about vgaoem font, for one.
Yes that one, & a few more. Will let u know once I'm home. Am driving at the moment :)

Maybe I did not understand something but the Screenshots 2 shows the result of the package of the following tweaks have been applied to the classically optimized system cMP2: Steppe's 1 ... 16, tweak from here http://www.AudioAsylum.com/forums/pcaudio/messages/9/94530.html, XPLite Tweak, Jolida's 1 ... 2, My Tweak & My Tweak 2.

Where in that list of tweaks does it say to delete the entire Documents and Settings folder? Where does it say to delete all the folders under Windows except for those 5 in your windows screenshot? Etc, etc? I have once again done all the tweaks you list save for the list you surprisingly bring up from September before any of the Steppes and still windows folder is way over 1GB. The folder system32 in your screenshot has dozens and dozens fewer elements than result from the combined tweaks listed. I must really have missed something and remain no less confused.

I was using the Jolida batch file for your tweak which does not deal with the folder deletions you listed. Now it makes sense to me at last.
I still wonder whether one can do it all from the start at once now that we know the end point. When I tried after 16 steps and the batches for your tweaks I couldn't boot up but got ntfs.sys missing when it wasn't.
Try to execute My Tweaks manually and gradually deleting folders and files (by groups) to define that file or a folder after which removal system it ceases to be loaded (if the such occurs to be).

I eliminated windows folders not shown> okay. Then, I eliminated folders from system32> okay. Then I eliminated the drivers not shown in drivers folder> no boot saying isapnp.sys was missing. I replaced that then no boot saying ntfs.sys missing. I am stuck here trying to identify which driver(s) must be replaced--no obvious choices. Suggestions?Btw, I never had LtcycfgWMp.sys or mv2.sys or rtenicxp.sys
At this point windows is 315MB

= Then I eliminated the drivers not shown in drivers folder> no boot saying isapnp.sys was missing. I replaced that... =
- Here the screenshot of the Driver folder in my OS (from package "Screenshots 2"):
As it is possible to see the file isapnp.sys is present (is shown!). Tell me please why you moved it and where?
The file ntfs.sys is shown too.= Btw, I never had LtcycfgWMp.sys or mv2.sys or rtenicxp.sys =
- Because you do not use the network configuration of cMP2. LtcycfgWMp.sys is driver for PCI Latency Tool, mv2.sys is driver for UVNC server and rtenicxp.sys is Realtek network driver.
Show the screenshot of your Drivers folder after elimination because I cannot understand in any way that you delete and that you leave.

Sorry if I wasn't clear. I removed isapnp.sys by mistake then returned it. ntfs.sys was present all along despite the error message. When I returned all the drivers it worked again, so I need to identify which driver removal of those not shown caused the problem. It is not one you listed to stay.
I do in fact use the network configuration of cMP but not the latency tool or a Realtek network driver. Mine is Intel on my Lenovo laptop.
Later I did the removal of files from system32 and again couldn't complete booting getting an "error c0000135 unable to locate component, application cannot find winsrv" despite winsrv.dll being still present. I returned first the .exe files> no improvement. Then I returned the .sys and .nls files> no error but boot stalled after showing the usual windowsxp screen with progress bar. Only when I returned the .dlls did full boot get restored. So, in toto, I need to find a driver in the driver folder and a .dll in the system32 folder that I have to keep in addition to what your screenshots show...apparently.
In my system the contents of the winsxs folder are entirely different from what you show, that is, none of the ones you have in your screenshot are in my winsxs at any point.
Well. Now as you have understood you have to find the necessary dll and sys. This is what I was doing when I was searching for files that can be removed. The easiest way to do it by successive bisection: return first half of all deleted files dll and check the system boot. If the system does not boot then remove this half and return the second half. If your system boots then again remove half of the recovered files and check the system boot, etc.
Serge.

I must confirm the riboge issue: me too can see about 250MB checking Windows folder.I'm not worried because sound is gorgeous but my curiosity is the same of riboge.
I've performed step 1-16 (plus XPlite) +jolida 1-2 + Mihaylov 1-2 ( with winsxs and .nls delections but fonts untouched.
Can you post number of files in windows, system32 and drivers along with size in mb?
One more thing are you sure you're getting properties of Windows and not C drive? My c drive is still over 1 gb.If you are do a properties read on Windows and all its sub folders then a read on system32 and its drivers tell us how many files and how much mb?
Unfortunately right now I have overriden that with a copy of just before pursuing the screenshots. I do recall that I did properties on windows folder to get this number and on system32. The latter was around 275MB. I kept a copy so I can look thru it later again.
But why do steppe 17-20 then M1 and M2 if you can at step 16 just work from the screenshots by eliminating all not shown? Also, Mihaylov presented the screenshots as part of M2 (?) well before steppe came out with 17-21. That's what is puzzling, the sequence of offering them and how it should relate to the sequence of performing deletions and whether one is intended to do both the latter steppes and M tweaks or whether they are alternative methods. Please note, I am working on a Lenovo laptop not a custom cMP rig. The bios changes are not possible for me.
Also, I am hoping Jolida will do batch files for these last steppe steps.
I personally do not use the screen shots because I cant d/l or want to pay to d/l. I think the screen shots are just a double check on the deletions. But anyway I did Steppes 1-20 plus My Tweaks 1 and 2 and I get down to about 80+ mb. I left all the .nls files and fonts because I had so much trouble with them initially. Are you sure its 570 and not 57 mb?
