Probably you have removed "explorer.exe"?
Serge.

my SSD for OS and software is formatted in FAT32.
Could this have anything to do with this?
Never a problem before.
I did this after reading that SSD's liked FAT better than NTFS.
I noticed a few files with FAT in the name.
I copied the deleted files back into the music computer's WINDOWS from my regular machine and this did not make a difference which makes me think I deleted something else other than what was specified.
So returning the files with FAT in the name did not bring it back.
I know, I know, I should have made an image ...
Thanks for your help,
I started doing from part 9 to the end of part 12 in one go, but without rebooting in between. After such a long set of deletions, wanted to audition the changes & got a Blue Screen. The windows starts & remains with a blank screen with just the mouse cursor for ten seconds & shuts down with a blue screen error. Please help...

I've got same experience after part 10. I've made some mistakes because restarting from part seven with calm and attention all now is working but.....
USB!!!!!
I cannot use USB devices: no mouse, no keyboard,no thumbs, no external HDD!!
It's a big problem for me and I can't find any tutorial or news about deleted files I must restore to repair this function. I'm not an expert!! System now recognize only devices attached from step 7, but thumbs go away the same. It's impossible to use a new mouse Keyboard wifi combo.
I can't go on toward next steps if I can't use mouse and keyboard and I can't listening music too!
Can someone help me? thanks a lot in advance
Daniele
and did not have a problem.
I do get the "autochk missing" screen for a few seconds and then it would nexy tell me I am missing some other file which after I click OK a couple of times (for cMP) or four times for XP all seems fine. It complains about a file removed back in 7 or 8 - sorry I cannot remember which one.
When I tried to do 9 through 16 I did get the blue screen. I had made the deletions through the GRANITE USB adaptor with my regular computer. I then reinstalled all of the files and went back to 8, all was fine.
Then I did the 8 through 12 the same way with no problems.
Have you tried SAFE MODE yet?
Last night I did 13 at the music computer, all was fine. Then I did 14 and the problem I am complaining about happened. I tried connecting the SDD to the regular computer. I can see the RECYCLE BIN folder but when I try to open it it momentarily shows the files then it goes blank and worst of all does not give me the restore option.
I know I am not giving you any help whatsoever but my thinking is that something I have done might shed some light for your problem.
Best of luck (to us both).
The masochistic part of me wonders if it might be for the best to start over again, again!
I did step 9 to 12 by hooking up my ssd to a laptop via esata cable & powering the ssd via granite digital power supply. Since it was all done on another computer, I dint find it necessary to restart. After all steps were completed, I hooked up the ssd back to the music computer. Windows boots. All that shows up on the screen is a mouse cursor & nothing else, not even taskbar. Then it shuts does after ten seconds getting a Blue screen "fatal error 000021". This is so frustrating...

AND the cursor - but it would sit there like that for the rest of my life if I let it!
I amp hoping my case is a conflict with my FAT formatted drive. I put back the files that (I presume) are associated with that (As if I would KNOW). One never learns anything without making mistakes. I am hoping for a few brilliant mistakes!
Tonight I will see ...
I would replace the files and start over. Worth a try.
