In Reply to: RE: cplay 2.b42 or better. New very important tweaks part 3 posted by Jolida on August 31, 2011 at 22:35:36
Hi all!
I deleted files which are used (can be used?) by Juli's driver: stream.sys, wdmaud.drv, ksuser.dll, ksproxy.ax.
All while works stably. I use only digital part of Juli and motherboard Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H with Intel Core i3-530.
The files stream.sys, ksuser.dll, ksproxy.ax are the part of DirectX file package (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DirectX) and they are not necessary for playback with Juli in ASIO mode as however and remaining files DirectX(imho) which I deleted too (except the file dxapi.sys without which system does not start and the file wsock32.dll without which Everest does not start). But I use cMP2 as streaming player w/o mouse, monitor and keyboards.
The file wdmaud.drv probably is used for audio Windows and it is not required for sound output with Juli in ASIO mode too.
Here the list of deleted files from folder system32:
The files ks.sys, MSPCLOCK.sys, MSPQM.sys, swenum.sys are in the folder Drivers on screenshot (also removed).
Serge.

I forgot to mention that after deleting the said files in Ur screenshot I am not able to use the wheel & right-click on the cordless mouse. Before I did the mod, the wheel scrolled down highlighting the next items on the list & clicking the wheel activated it. Now I can only use the left-click alone to point at songs & play by double-clicking them. Which file needs to be replaced to sort this out???
I deleted the above mentioned files in the screenshot excluding the direct x input files which u suggested deleting in the second queue. Have been playing for almost two hours now. The music spectrum seems tilted towards the upper mids & highs. Entire presentation seems very Forward. Though detail has increased, there is no grip in the upper midrange which makes vocals less controlled. The bass & lower mids have gone down two notches. In short it sounds equalised. Does it need to be run-in longer???Edit :- I put back the wdmaud.drv file back in the Drivers folder just to check again. It has cured 90% of the flaws I mentioned above. I guess we have to be extremely focussed while making changes to the system. That file has a definite purpose of being used by Julia, though it runs even without it. The files you have deleted have a profound effect on the performance. Except for the wdmaud.drv file, which if deleted, reverses their effect. Thanks :)

Hi Jolida,
First of all, thanks for your list, there is now better left/right balance, more precise image, and a yet tighter bass. And as I was listening to Tweak #4.5 (that's what I call yours) I though to myself, why don't I try your other suggestion, put wdmaud.drv back, after all no harm can be done and I can always remove it if I don't like it.
To put a story short, I think you are right again. Putting it back does make a big difference. The sound is now no longer thin; not only is it fuller and more natural, the soundstage is now more extended to the back, so that it is now square instead of a thin rectangle.
I suggest others to try it to see how you feel.
In fact I was JUST about to post a new topic regarding the same. I have been noticing this since about a week. The bottom end & for that matter the whole Range does not sound FULL without the wdmaud.drv file in it's respective folder. I agree that Juli@ does work without the file as well, but the bottom line is that the end-result sounds incomplete without it. Without the wdmaud.drv file, I feel that, if not full, atleast half an octave sounds missing in the lower registers ( somewhere between the bass/midbass/lower-mids section). The male vocals sound leaner & the impact in bass guitars lacks the Bite which kinda makes the sound, as we could say "light-weighted". Whether Juli@ needs the file to work or not, it sure is needed to make the presentation Complete.
Last night when I was having my listening session, I did one more thing. Serge had suggested that we delete the file named "SOUND" in his 1st list. I put it back in it's respective folder, & heard a wake-up call again. When we make deletions, we need to be absolutely focussed & sure as to how it sounded before & what it's sounding after the deletion. A CHANGE need not always be an improvement. That's what has happened by removing those two files. I suggest u try it as well & post a feedback.
I cannot comment on the improvements of users who use other soundcards apart from Juli@. It's a sure possibility that they too might equally benefit by putting back the wdmaud.drv & SOUND files in their original folders. But as far as Juli@ is concerned, it's a MUST !!!
Hi Jolida,
Thanks for another excellent suggestion! Do note that I am not a Juli@ user. I use ASIO4ALL and the Devilsound dac through an USB isolator with an external battery power supply.
After putting back the sound.drv (lower case in my system) back to System32 and dllcache. I immediately played Van Morrison's 'His Band & The Street Choir'. I always thought that record is the worst recorded of his 3 classics which include "Astral Weeks', and 'Moondance'. This applies to both the LPs (Japanese pressing) and the wave files ripped from Japanese remastered CD. But by putting back the sound.drv file, the sound of that record is no longer a bit recess, but is as immediate as the sound on 'Moondance', one of the most immediate recordings ever! Image my surprise! Everything is now in my room!
A revelation indeed. Everyone MUST give this a try.
Hi Jolida,
Though I'm not a Juli@ user (yet, I now use ASIO4ALL), I had the exact same experience as yours when I did Tweak #3, i.e., tilled high, no bass, recess vocal. It was only after several hours playing in a period of 2 days that this thinness of sound was finally gone and everything became glorious.
Yes it does. But without that file, the music does not seem to be balanced at all (atleast with Julia)...
Perhaps. I did not note it.

After deleting the files in Ur screenshot ( except the wdmaud.drv which I mentioned) & running in for a day, it sounds OUTSTANDING. I still wonder what role does that one file play in maintaining tonal balance. Excellent job. Thanks :)
It would be great to have your feedback on the same...

If i delete ALL the files which you have mentioned (which ofcourse i would love to), & use a wired usb mouse, will it be alright?? I do not use the Zalman case so i have to use a Monitor. Does the list of deleted files in ur post effect the working of the mouse & monitor? If not, i would rightaway go ahead & delete the whole lot...
I have Zalman case, but I find it less and less convenient, so I also use a wheel usb mose and a monitor.
Steppe.
Mouse is corded or cordless ?? Have u tried deleting all files which Mihaylov suggested? He suggests not deleting some files if using a Mouse & a Monitor. I take this opportunity to thank u for sharing Ur ideas on taking the cMp further ahead at software level....
I already answered you here: http://www.audioasylum.com/forums/pcaudio/messages/9/94547.html

Are these new files you have found to be sq opportunities if deleted? Are they recommended for those of us with the old E7200 based system?
Perhaps. I am not sure. At least the sound does not worsen ;).
"Are they recommended for those of us with the old E7200 based system?" - I think that systemboard and cpu does not matter here.
http://cmp2-mihaylov.narod.ru/
Excellent. I will try them as well. By the way I use a cordless mouse for my cMP. Will deleting all the above mentioned still get the mouse to work ??
Don't remove the files DirectInput: dinput8.dll, diactfrm.dll, dimap.dll, dinput.dll or try to remove them in second queue.
http://cmp2-mihaylov.narod.ru/
Is this a warning for all or just jolida?
Most likely it is reinsurance. Files DirectInput probably concern only game pointing devices (joystick etc.)

when I was using a wireless mouse I had problems.
A sloppy mis-click could result in having to re-boot.
Since doing away with it I have NEVER had to re-boot unless I wanted to.
I wonder if one is better off without the wireless mouse?
I have found I much prefer having the keyboard with an USB extension cord.
Exactly !! U r correct. I am facing such issues with the cordless mouse as well. I dint know it's been an issue with other users as well. So u mean instead we use a corded USB mouse with an extension cable right?? With the cordless mouse, a sloppy mis-click always results in an error reporting "Asio driver not installed" or initialised or something like that, & the only option left would be to re-boot using the restart button on the cMP...
Instead of using the mouse I went to keeping the keyboard close by.
I keep the mouse at the computer so the keyboard is what get used.
Like I said no re-boots since getting rid of the remote mouse.
I did not get any messages when I had a problem, the machine would just freeze and the hourglass would rotate endlessly. I would re-boot and all was fine. Though I did have a few times when I had to clear the BIOS and reset that.
I had made mention of this before but no one else seemed to be having the same problem.
I guess I have about eighteen feet of usb cable between keyboard and machine. I am using a stout linear supply for usb power.
Personally, I much prefer the keyboard. Much easier to switth back and forth the "phase"/polarity to find the best setting
Linear psu for the USB?? but the port will just be used with a mouse/keyboard or an external drive to transfer files right ? How does a linear benefit for USB then??
hdd drives.
The extra power, I thought, might be important with the long cable run.
Also, this was part of a general move to eliminate all switching supplies from the machine.
I should have made that clear.
that I was not having any problems.
I deleted the DIRECTX folder with no problems.
My machine is only using cMP and cPLAY, nothing else is asked of it.
I spoke not about the folder DirectX but about the files in root of the folder system32 and in the subfolder drivers ;).

Being basically an incompetent computer dilettante I greatly appreciate what the LEADERS have shown us (and continue to show us)
Now to get to that list! (thought I had got off easy with the folder deletion. Oh, well ...)
THANKS!
