I did all the removals except items in \windows\drivers\drivers.cab. I don't have a \system32\dllcache folder. I don't know how to remove individual items from a .cab leaving the rest intact. I believe if I leave wfp off that doesn't matter. Someone tell me if I have that wrong.
Issues: I got an error window starting cMP saying it couldn't initialize something because msacm32.dll was missing. Closing that cMP came up anyway. I found, though, that I could not use notepad.exe 9to edit cuesheets) due to this being missing. I put it back and all was fine, except...
For those with Weiss DACs: my installation bluescreened soon after starting until I restarted with the firewire cable to the dac unplugged and then reinstalled the Weiss driver. Obviously one or more items removed are essential for these dacs. Its probably among the ones starting with midi.. I haven't traced it out yet, but reinstalling makes that unnecessary.
Follow Ups:
You don't have to touch files from the cabs. They are not extracted, thereforem- harmless.
Serge.
Thanks, What I don't understand is how wfp if on would restore all the items I removed if they had only been present once in system32 or for only a few there plus a cab but nowhere else. I have no dllcache or other store of them to restore from that I can identify.
How did you get wfp to work?
I finally got XPlite to work after yet another try a couple days later. I can't explain why it worked then when it wouldn't on several tries before. Fortunately, I didn't have to attempt that long method in the link posted.
Let me recommend to all an album that sounds just great with the new improvements. Schorry and Carroll's Percussion in Hifi 24/192 version from highdefinitiontapetransfers.com. Not great music but fun and wow sound.
