Remember I'm running an amd athlon 64 X 2, no AME but still many of the cmp parameters (underclocking, external hard drive ps via granite digital, and as many of the windows settings I can get w/o losing email, net browsing capability).
To get quick feedback I always play some of my Mercury files (antal dorati 7 studies by paul klee, howard hanson merry mount) and these files are brutal: very dynamic but lots of air/great timbre and depth and very quick especially the xylophone and flute) and at first these files sounded a little bright but then I remembered from a cold start my electronics do sound bright. After 20 minutes of warmup I sat back and listened and OMG you've done it again --- this is what I'm talking about in home system music playback: you have taken cplay to yet another level of clarity and transparency, another f on top of triple fortissimo runs, more round and natural timbre to woodwinds and that slight delicacy to strings and the ease of the music flow is simply breathtaking. How can it get better I just don't know (yes I do know-- go the whole 9 yards of cmp but I'm practicing on an extra computer & have already installed AME feature on it and it sounds good but is limited by asio4all at 48khz sampling at this time, I will do more).
Any audiophile with any kind of desire to hear an approximation of the live unamplified music needs to hear this. Simply stunning, thank you again again and again.
I can only admit to the given description of the audible outcom, the "cPlay 1 0 Final SSSE3" version brings. Yesterday I could visit alfred (sonics). He had installed the version and it was impressing. Alfred and me know each other for several years. He was the person, who's input triggered me to start with PC for audio. I find it extremly exiting, what happend for me with cMP in a relativ short period. Looking forward to get the Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L after my holidays. I like encourage everybody to have a PC dedicated to music only. The return will be beyond expectation. At least it was for me. Walter
There's cleaner CPU power delivery and this mobo allows for OC to 1600 FSB which means underclocking could potentially give better results.
I plan to get one of these as well.
Should I order this( Gigabyte's GA-EG31M-S2) or Gigabyte GA-G31M-S2L? Are they similar size wise?
.
Hi cics,I am using the GA-G31M-S2L with the E7200 in my new setup but my friend Andre is using the GA-EG31M-S2. He has not been able to lower the CPU clock below 266, any lower and the board doesn't boot, which required a BIOS reset. The same with the RAM timings, he can't reach 2.0 to get the 3-3-3-9 latencies, the best was 4-4-4-10. In addition, when we communicated with Gigabyte's tech support we were never able to get them to understand we were trying to under-clock the board and they said we should use the default settings! He has now ordered the GA-G31M-S2L and will use the other board for other kinds of tests which we will talk about later.
As I get mine optimized (After reinstalling XP for the 3rd time!), I will post more here as well.

More listening and I think I can further describe the sound as getting the ictus of each note correct. Its all about the high frequencies and rise time of the leading edge of music and this version gets it right! I think for me in my system this is the biggest incremental improvement I have heard from release 1 through 20. Cics are you going to describe in layman's term what this ssse (or sse in my case) version is physically doing?
I'm still learning what it does...
The sense of realism has lifted to a new level (using standard 16/44.1)!
I'm still at 176 khz sampling and -146 src and 48 latency and I was fearfull my amd may not be up to the task but it's really sounding great.
