Watch out...XP service packII users.
This update either corrupted the Kmixer and/or effected drivers for both my EMU 1616M and SigmaTel card.
The sound became closed in and soft like someone threw a blanket over the system. 36 hours later...removing this update and countless system restores and Norton reinstalls, and Patchmix DSP reinstalls I cleared the problem. I was locked into a 36 hour reboot hell.

I was wrong about this update. First check was OK. But it actually causes my emu0404 usb to output corrupted sound sometimes.
I uninstalled it and it seems that all is well.
It is not Patchmix; I haven't installed it.
You might want to give Customer Support a call...
KB950749 update has had no effect at all on my EMU0404USB or STHDA ASIO drivers. Look it up with Google to see what it does.If it is this update you are talking about, then it can be removed in ADD/REMOVE program.
It may be that Norton is causing problems; I avoid their software like the plaque.
This is why I am wary of PC audio. If you are like Dawnrazor and does not update, then you be be loosing improvements. I try to use one PC to see if updates or programs have an effect, then install or not install on my audio PC. Don't always succeed.

Hey Fred. You crack me up. You really think there is an improvement in ANY XP update that helps it sounds better or helps the software player sound better??
If at the end of the day, you have 3-4 programs that are on the system in addition to windows, odds as that no window update will affect anything.
Now if you mess around like I do on my normal computer then updates can help. But most of those are security updates and well if your pc isn't even hooked up to the internet who cares?
Treat the thing like a CDP and not a PC and stuff like this wont kill you.
Man that sucks. Sorry you had that happen.
This is one of the many reasons to have a dedicated system. No need to do any updates if it works.....it works.
THanks for the info. I did that update on my non music PC.
