Very nice. Aside from supporting USB storage for LMS, I wonder what capabilities it has vs the microRendu. It's less expensive and the case is better suited to staying put on a shelf. Will you be reviewing it?
Nice QX-5 too!

I rather like the fact that the uRendu doesn't require separate shelf space. Mine lives safely hidden away behind the DAC. :)
I've been accused of having a tidy setup but yours is way too neat! Very nice.
Oh, you have a stray cable support to the left with no cable on it. Better fix it right away! ;-)
Thanks - I've actually changed the balanced interconnects and routed them slightly differently. I'm temporarily using my old Ariston turntable so the thin wiring from the Eagle controller is kinda dangling in the back while not in use.
What you can't see is a bench with a liftable lid and storage behind the rack in the dormer. I place a Monster HT3500 conditioner on top reversed with the outlets showing to feed the sources. Most of the power cords are short, with one having its slack taken out by lifting the lid on the bench and feeding excess through there.
I plug the SP20 directly into the outlet at bottom right.
As for lighting, I'm better than our pizza loving friend BH, but not in your class. There's lighting overhead, but I just can't get it down into the rack for clarity. I get shadows when I try to illuminate it externally since I don't have an umbrella. Maybe that's why I'm not a photographer!
That is a nice looking rack and stack.
I did, however, have to invest a couple of bucks (mostly shipping) for some Diversitech isolators to ensure that both the Audiophilleo converter and uRendu did not torque the connectors. :)
I thought maybe I was the only one contemplating such a thing. I think the spdif on my dac is better than usb (its an early adopter of usb). In my case it would be a jenny modified Hiface.
I'll probably try to use a Raspberry Pi for a while but I'm interested in your take. Still worth going for the uRendu if you are converting to spdif?
Thanks,
Steve
I haven't directly compared a Pi with the uRendu. While the latter is decidedly better than the Touch that preceded it, I don't know how a Pi fits in the scheme of things.
Now that SoTM has updated their model, that may be another one to consider.
I only wondered how it compared to what you used to use. You indeed answered that. Have you tried bypassing the spdif converter and going straight from the urendu to your dac?
That's the part I'm curious about.
I have the Wyred4Sound uLink USB-to-S/PDIF Converter that I have tried on 3 different DACs and there was no degradation with it vs USB direct.
#1) uRendu USB port to uLink USB-to-S/PDIF converter to the S/PDIF input to my PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC -vs- uRendu USB port direct to USB input on the DAC. No perceptible degradation or huge benefit either way. I removed the uLink Converter as I didn't find it necessary in this setup. I use it elsewhere.
#2) Mac Mini computer USB port to uLink USB-to-S/PDIF converter to the S/PDIF input to my Mytek Digital Stereo192 DSD DAC -vs- Mac Mini computer Firewire port direct to Firewire input on the DAC. On this DAC I actually prefer Firewire direct by a very slight margin. The USB on this older Mytek DAC requires a proprietary driver that hasn't been updated in years and is not compatible with the recent release of Mac OS X in my setup. No problem, I use Firewire direct to DAC or the uLink Converter. Both sound just fine.
#3) uRendu USB port to uLink USB-to-S/PDIF converter to the S/PDIF input to my Accuphase DP-65v CDP DAC S/PDIF input. The older Accuphase has S/PDIF coaxial and TOSLINK Optical inputs only so the USB-to-S/PDIF converter is required in this case with the uRendu. This is in my basement setup but I also have my PS Audio NuWave DSD DAC down there. If I'm playing around with the DAC in the Accuphase CDP I use the uLink USB-to-S/PDIF converter.

Thanks Abe

Short answer is that I cannot.
While the DAC8 offers USB 2.0 functionality, it requires using their drivers via computer playback. On the other hand, with my previous arrangement using a DAC7 and Touch, I found that USB connectivity offered no perceivable benefit over S/PDIF via BNC.
Thanks Abe.Yes, Michael gave me the go-ahead to review the sMS-200.
