Is it just me, or has anyone noticed excessive hiss accompanying some of the songs streamed from Tidal?

Me too! Just two days ago the first track of an album I streamed had hiss all the way through it. This is not the first time it has occurred.
If you don't tell us the album we can't tell you what the problem is

Working on it. Need to find the time to find the songs. I'm guessing these are simply bad recordings or as PAR explained, old recordings. Offer 40-million songs and you're probably statistically guaranteed to have some bad recordings here and there.

However there was a guy on the TIDAL blog who claimed that certain labels were putting audible 'water marks' on some of the files they submitted.
One of his examples I could here a difference between the TIDAL version and the version on QOBUZ which SELLS the downloads and therefore has no audible water mark.
The water mark is kind of a warble in the music at certain points.
Mostly rock/pop and not old classical records like I listen to.

Didn't catch the names of the songs, but they were classical piano songs in a playlist. I'll see if I can't find them again. It was definitely hiss and not warble.
It would be good if you could identify the piano pieces and the artists.
I am wondering, as you describe it as hiss and only relevant to some tracks, if you may be listening to recordings made many years ago. These are almost certain to exist on Tidal's database especially if the artist is of historial significance.
So my guess is that the hiss you hear is tape hiss from recordings made before the advent of Dolby. They will have been digitised subsequently but the hiss remains.
As watermarking appears to result in a warbling or tremolo effect and that doesn't seem to fit with your description I agree with you and doubt if that is the cause.
Have not noticed on anything I listen to. Which songs?
I Havn't and I stream from Tidal all the time
Alan
