Is UPnP something that just comes with Windows? Or do you have to go into the network stack and add it or something like that?
I'm reading about the Cambridge Network player and it says something like 'it can find files on a UPnP PC'.
So if I plug it into my network can it just find my PC or is there some twiddling/installing to do?

Funny that you should mention using a Cambridge Audio network player,I had a similar experience with one of these (a Sonata NP30;I think) a few yrs ago.
I ended up "retiring" the player due to what appeared to be a lack of support for receiving lossless music files via Internet sources. I recently attempted to find out if there was a firmware update to make it possible to use with Tidal. Regretfully, this hasn't occurred.
I guess I've become a bit spoiled listening to nothing lower than (well played) lossless music for quite some time now. The 320Kbps feeds I'm able to receive aren't horrible, but I have no shortage of lossless music that I'm able to listen to.
It would have been nice to have a "Lossless Radio" for days that I'm too lazy to decide what I want to listen to. The Cambridge player (until I become aware of updates) will remain "Retired"

You need to run UPnP server software on the PC. Are you still running Logitech Media Server on your network? If so, it includes a plugin that lets LMS function as a UPnP server. Go to Settings > Plugins and see if it's listed under 'Active Plugins'. If not, find it under 'Inactive Plugins', enable it, and then restart LMS.
If you're not running LMS, Windows Media Center also functions as a UPnP server.
