Nothing really new - just another positive vote. :)

"I've seen chatter about DIY solutions that have the potential to equal or better the microRendu, but in direct comparisons, to my ears, this is wishful thinking."
Hoping this drives a stake in the heart of the idea that just an off-the-shelf 'computer on a PCB' and a few IO ports is all this thing could possibly be.

Have you been watching allot of vampire movies lately?
John is a very talented guy and IMO anything he designs would be topnotch.
It is possible to DIY something pretty good, but not the same.
But some folks seem to think that anyone can buy a Raspberry P1 off the internet add some parts aand have something that works just as well and sounds just a good as the uRendu for just a few bucks.
Having heard the uRendu I would think that is VERY unlikely to be the case.
And yes, I've known John for years since he was showing his tube audio creations at VSAC.
One can now compare a more DIY, Rasberry Pi with Snappy Ubuntu, Arch, Gentoo, OSs & music player...
Or, one can just buy a $199 Sonicorbiter/Cubox box with Sonic Orbiter OS and compare...
Or, - one can buy the John Swenson's microRendu with the SonicOrbiter OS and compare DIRECTLY with the two before...
Or, - try the Bryston...
One can put what I've been saying here for a year & 1/2 to the test: easier than ever....
"Asylums with doors open wide,
Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
Yeah, like those idiots at Bryston, think they can make something better for twice the price. But then again, there are AudioPhools.Cut-Throat

who feel the uRendu is too expensive and that they can cobble something better together from ebay DIY computer parts.
They used the same Board. Do you think the fancy case added anything to the sound?

There is more than one board, but you can DIY the exact same thing as the Bryston for about $100 plus a good linear power supply, maybe another $80. You do not power the PI directly for best sound, you power it through the HIFIBerry SPDIF+.

One board, two boards..... Dac or no Dac..... They took a Pi and put a Fancy case around it...... Big Deal !
Cut-Throat
Do you comprehend what is actually being discussed here?
The point is that Bryston did exactly what DIYers did. They just happened to have packaged the Pi in a fancy case. Whether they used the PI alone or with a Hifi Berry to provide a digital out is not relevant. One board or two boards does not matter. They did none of the real engineering themselves.

Ok but it is not that always that simple, and many people do not have the ability to build something themselves. They are the customers for audiophile products.
If you do not think they are of value, fine... But there are people who will come to a different conclusion. From my testing of a similar DIY configuration, IMO they have a very good product.
Trying to a school a troll who spouts off about products they have no experiences with is the definition of fruitless endeavor.
I would have thought you would get a better supply than an external SMPS. Now I understand why they are coy about showing it in any of the pics. You'll see it in the manual .
Or, the manual suggests you can spend another $1865 for their MPS-2 linear and adapter plug. Maybe that's why their PI runs at 12V while most run 5V. :)

..and of course, not a penny of that 12 grand you claim to have spent on your vinyl set up is audiophoolery.
Spend 5 minutes talking to James Tanner at Bryston you would never make such an absurd comment. But then again, ignorant suppositions and envious comments are your trademark.
Sad. Very sad. Those "idiots" at Bryston have been in business for 40 years. And they make excellent products. You? A said troll.

You need to get laid.

No, I'm good.
The childish response of a cornered troll lol. Who has not heard ANY CUTTING EDGE PRODUCT and has no plans too. Bye Troll.
...not likely.
