Havn't been looking in the subject of proper system burn-in for some years.
Are these tools still be used??
If so,
I'm wondering if anybody can refer me to a "state-of-the-art" burn/break-in
track download.
Thx.

I often hear you recommending the Raspberry Pi and how you have it 'tweaked' to sound excellent.I bought one about 5 years ago or so. (Mine is 512MB Project Board Model B) and I got it to work running LMS. Today I downloaded PicorePlayer and am running it from the USB ports into my USB DAC. It sounds pretty good.
It seems that have been some upgrades to it in the last few years and I thought I may try it again. Do you have any recommendations on what to buy and tweak to beat a Squeezebox Touch and rival other streamers. Are there any links on the net that you recommend that may describe this?
Thanks in advance and also for your toolkit for the SBT...

My setup is following:
* Raspberry PI2 (No PI3)
* iFi iPower 5V
* MamboBerry Lite - HAT DAC (just released)
* PiCorePlayer 3.0
This IMO beats a Touch already and will cost you around 150€/$.
I would not recommend to run the LMS server on the PI.
If you want a standalone machine you might have a look at Moode or Volumio or Archphile.
I would not run a 1st generation PI.
With a HAT DAC you get away from all the USB mess. S'been a relieve for me.
There's tons of info on the net how to tweak the PI a little.
Good luck.

I misspoke.... I am running LMS on another computer on the network. The Pi just appears as another Player. (which is what I meant). I am also running Picoreplayer 3.0

Why Not? - Is the hardware inferior? It sounds fine.

I'd like to use my own external DAC..... Wouldn't I be better off just getting a HiFiBerry Digi+ ?

Yes, I have been reading it alot....Most of it quite contradictory... That's the reason for this post, trying to sort things out.

I rrational, B ut E fficacious disk containing a series of different tracks designed for that purpose.
It's not downloadable, but highly recommended. You can get a copy from a range of vendors including Amazon.
I use it (track 1) more as a weekly tune-up to get better SQ. Not sure whether it tunes the system, my ears, or my imagination but it does make for better listening. For burn-in of new components I mostly just play music.
Since I've ripped all my CDs to the music server, it is very easy for me to use it across all systems.
Even Charles Hansen will honestly tell you he doesn't really understand how or why it works - just that it does!
By now I came acrossTaralabs Burn In - http://www.taralabs.com/cascade-noise-burn-in
And was hinted to
iFi Burn In - http://ifi-audio.com/audio_blog/burn-in-like-a-pro/
I also read somewhere someone adding a "silence" track to the playlist giving the system a short break once in a while.
I thought that might be a good idea. ;)I quickly generated a 60 second silence.flac track with sox:
sox -n -r 44100 -C 0 -c 2 silence.flac trim 0.0 60.0
FMAK brought up a DEMAG track. As a matter of fact I own the Densen Demagic track. I might add that one as final cleanup.
Somebody else mentioned Classical Orchestra due to dynamics and frequency mix/range.
So far so good. There's a certain logic attached to every approach. Discussing differences of different approaches will probably be ending nowhere.
Bottom Line. We eat what's on the table. The playlist is fixed for now and covers it all.
Let the game begin. May the odds be in my favor. ;)

Yes, they work. For me, some seem to work better than others but the best for me is a freeby from a magazine HiFiChoice. Some expensives ones are only so so. Stereophile used to sell a disc as well.
I don't know of a good free source but the discs are not expensive if you look. A detuned FM signal is sometimes used for burn in.
For demagnetising goto

Such tracks can have a significant 'clean-up' effect.
Thx.
Is the HifiChoice track available for download?
I do own a Densen DeMagic track.
Unfortunately not; it was a long time ago. But I was told that it was from Isotek.
Doesn't the Densen disc offer burn in? Otherwise why not just record white noise and repeat wide spectrum classical at high sample rates?
This is just to point out that for anyone using active louspeakers the demagnetiser tracks will not work. You should be able to work out why.
Please explain.
It's because demagnetising tracks use a sweep tone to demagnetise using hysterisis. As the electronic crossover in an active system blocks part of the tone sent to each of the amplifiers anything in the circuit beyond the electronic crossover will not be demagnetiised.
Burn in is different as it is not necessary to maintain an uninterrupted sweep of frequencies to work.
Ah, makes sense. Thanks.
