Anyone check this out yet?
I saw it on 6moons. The specs sound really impressive, especially for $89!
I sent them an e-mail to see if it is bit perfect and can do 24bit / 96khz.
Now THIS is more like it:
It is quite a bit more expensive than the Trends Audio, but it looks like it is pretty solid for an off-the-shelf solution.
I bought one Friday, and the sound is amazing. The AKM4396 and USB is very nice.
However, I may return it since on 1.8gz Pentium M it takes over 40-50% of CPU to do 44.1, and spikes the processor to upsample to 88.2.
I have not given up since the sound quality is strikingly good. Perhaps a driver update for the USB port on the laptop, or some other tweak will work. At this time though, it is a CPU hog on my system.
Do you use this device (0404 USB) with an external DAC, or with the built-in DAC?
Thanks for the info! Too bad its such a resource hog! :(
Are you outputting via ASIO?
Yes, I am using Foobar and ASIO. I would really like to keep it since it does sound great, but I have to solve the CPU issue.
Thanks Lynn. Please keep us posted with your devlopments. I have to think there's a solution there (at least I'm hopeful there's one!)
Sounds like a really great product...especially paired up with a good linear power supply.
I think they are not using USB 2.0. Only USB 1.1. And the bandwidth is good for 24/44.1 or 24/48. It should not be problem as most sources are 16/44.1 anyway.
