They are Beta units in name only. They are the same production units that you can pre-order for full price. They just want to be sure they got it right, before a mass release.
They invested a lot of time and money to get this product to market. If it works as advertised, it will end the need for Regens, Jitterbugs, and turn usb into an audiophile quality input. I was kind of surprised that the retail price is only $599, when you compare it to other solutions.
This isn't like their preamp, where it sells for $6000, so the beta price was around 30% off.

Not really.
In fact, the sonic upside is likely due to the fact that it acts as an isolation device in the USB link, as many others do (see pic. above). ;-)
Now if you have a need to use the USB output of a computer NOT located near your main audio system, this may be a HUGE step up from AirPlay or some other lame link like Bluetooth.
Hopefully you will enjoy your experience and the LANRover is not a LANMine.

This is precisely why I am excited about this product, and have signed up for the beta. I have been using Airplay so far, which limits resolution to 44.1 kHz and can be a nuisance in other ways. Other people had suggested using previously available USB-ethernet-USB products, but these are almost as expensive, not specifically designed or even recommended for audio, and most of them require a direct ethernet link and cannot be used over a general network. I had also considered a microrendu, but this also requires a direct ethernet connection and does not seem adapted to Audirvana, which is what I am interested in so far.
I should get mine this week, but I'll be too busy with various things to test it for a while.
The microRendu and other streamers will work over a 'general' network. They offer similar isolation properties as the LANRover in addition to providing other services through various onboard Apps and network streaming protocols.
