This segment of audio is moving too fast to assume Roon will still have the same value 4 years from now.

Amarra was $1500 USD when first released and it required a stupid USB smartkey for licensing and anti-piracy copy protection! You had to plug the stupid thing into a USB port to enable Amarra. Even then, USB smartkey protection technology was antiquated and out of favor with most software developers.
When software player competitors hit the market Amarra dropped their price to $995, then $695, then.... I have no idea but Amarra pissed me off so much I never considered them again.
I was at the RMAF show several years ago where they were offering a show discount on Amarra. I was anxious to buy and give it try. The dumb ass manning the Amarra room had no idea how to sell it to me. I offered my VISA, I offered Cash. No clue. He had no idea what to do. So much for that show special discount. I left and never looked at Amarra again.
Besides, there were so many reasonably priced players that quickly followed Amarra making them no longer relevant as far as I was concerned.
Actually, Amarra sold for $1000 when it first came out; they gave a discount :)
To ordinary folk, or accommodation pricing for friends, family, and reviewers? ;-)
Anyone with the cash!
I must not have received that memo, but I believe you.
