Wow, haven't been to the Asylum in a while! We are making our annual road trip next week and I am in need of a portable audio player that I can drag/drop .flac files to.
The NWZ-A17 looks like the device I am in search of. A little pricey at $300 but I could put half of my ripped collection on it. And it is available locally at Frys so I could pick one up between now and our departure and get the ball rolling.
So, any opinions or experiences to share? I searched for the model number in this forum but did not get an exact match. Only 2 results and they were from 2010.
TIA...

Bought a PonoPlayer from Fry's. Sounds superb. Now have 2 of them. That Ayre dac is a beauty.
Love mine! I have used Sony Digital Walkmans for a long time as they sound better and offer more controls and features than than say the iPod and they are solidly built. Don't think it's pricey at given that I can now play my vast collection of FLAC tunes (along with other formats)and the ability to expand via micro SD. My only suggestion would be for more amp power but that could shorten it's excellent battery time between charges. The EQ settings are useful and with a good set of ear buds it is non fatiguing. There is really nothing out there that offers as much for the money-go for it.
The Fiio X3 (2nd gen). Frys had it on sale for $180. Only problem is that it has no on-board memory. So I picked up two 64gb microSD cards for $17 each. So I was out the door for just under $232.
So far it seems like a great little unit. My Win7 computer recognized it right away and transferring files has been a breeze. I've only listened to one song so far (Bela Fleck) so I can't unequivocally vouch for the sound quality but I did like what I heard. It has an eq but it is currently disabled. I looked through the settings earlier and just left everything where it was for the time being. It's been all about file transfer so far.
The real test for sound quality/battery life/features will come when we hit the road in a couple of days. But so far I am pleased with my purchase. I really appreciate the response!
