that was a disaster. Unlike two other machines that refused to update, this one actually went through. And died a slow and painful death a couple of months later. Fortunately, I had an image backup and reverted.
I run Win10 on the company laptop, but other than some trendier graphics, I don't find much in the way of any useful improvements. First thing I did was turn Cortana off. OTOH, task manager is cooler looking and it's nice to be able to access "msconfig" functionality in its own tab.

Hi again !
very interesting. I see the pop-up message proposing the upgrade (?) to win 10.
I am mostly fine with win 7.
I believe I have issues with usb connection but I feel it is more an HW issue, not SW.
I will live with 7 for the next future.
Thanks a lot again.
Kind regards,
bg

If you go from Windows 8.1, the Windows 10 is an Upgrade. I like it......Some older hardware on 7, can be a problem however.
My desktop which is a very high power 3.4 gig processor and 16 gig of memory went to Windows 10 with no problems. My HP printer did not like it however.

I didn't like it and audio wasn't better. 8.1 is very stable and can stand a lot of abuse.
I have both on dual boot, but most of the time I prefer W8.1
especially since my Dell box is now six years old. What ticks me off is the utter inadequacy of Microsoft's compatibility tests. I wasted countless hours farting around trying to get it to work.
The top performing new version of my desktop offers twice the CPU horsepower, but honestly having the computational power of a Cray 2 is sufficient for me. The only task that absolutely slams the eight processors at 100% is Handbrake - converting video content to an MP4 container for use pads and for streaming via Roku.
I recently realized a huge performance gain, however, by moving the OS to an SSD drive.
It was a driver issue.... They succeeded on the Printer, but failed on the Scanner for wireless..... I now have to use a USB Cable again for the scanner.
