I have an Aurender N100 I'm running through my Marantz sa11s3 as a USB dac, and while the sound is great, it turns out there's a problem resulting from a software incompatibility: I'm occasionally getting split-second sound drop-outs, and 192k files sound wobbly and weird. The Marantz USB input, it turns out, requires a MAC/PC driver to insure optimal performance, but the Aurender runs on Linux. So here's my question to the PC Audio Asylum: is there a way of installing a MAC/PC driver on the Linux-based Aurender, or will I have to start looking for another dac? Thanks in advance for any help or advice,
JB Coleman

Hi JB,Not an answer, but a story that may shed some light on the issue (or simply raise more questions).
I had a similar issue with a N100 I purchased not long after release. Loved the sound, but after playing for 30 minutes, it would develop tics, drop-outs... as if it were dropping samples. This was into a DAC that required USB 2.0 compatible drivers. Aurender claimed their implementation was 2.0 compliant.
Despite their claims, the USB out on the N100 is not 2.0 compliant - the power line is outside spec. This should not have been the issue in my case because my DAC does not use USB-sourced power. Still, it rang alarm bells for me and I also suspect their drivers were not compliant, but of course, can't be sure.
Aurender could not resolve the issue for me... and simply ceased contact; in the end the dealer refunded my money. I have since noticed that Aurender has released a USB-SPDIF converter specifically for use with their USB outputs. I suspect more than a few folks have had issues with Aurender's USB implementation.
As for your Marantz, are you sure it needs PC/Mac drivers or just USB 2.0 compliant drivers?
Cheers,
91.

Hi all,
Sorry about the delayed response. Unfortunately, the Marantz driver is not updatable, so I'm pretty much stuck with that part of the combination. After messing around with different combinations of sources to the Aurender, I'm concluding that there's just an incompatibility between the devices. This is also what Aurender suggested in their responses. Thanks for your feedback, it's much appreciated.

is there a way of installing a MAC/PC driver on the Linux-based AurenderNope. Not unless you want to 'hack' it and possibly void the warranty.
One thing I'd be curious about is whether the USB DAC within the Marantz requires a proprietary driver to be installed on a Mac/PC in order for it to work. If this is the case, my guess would be that the Aurender probably doesn't support DACs that require proprietary drivers.
Unless I'm missing something, the way I see it is:
1) Run a Mac/PC with proprietary driver loaded and dump the Aurender.
2) Dump the Marantz and get a compatible USB DAC if you must connect via USB.
What did Aurender have to say?
You're pretty much at their mercy because unlike a PC/Mac, you can't just hack the Aurender, install what you need and be done with it.
