the Computer out of the room, and buy the various items to make it a Network, around $4000.
Funny at Skywalker Ranch Studio, there are computers in the room.
The recommended Power Supply for the MicroRendu costs more than the Rendu itself!
I'm sure it's a great way to go, but not for me unless I get a Major Financial Windfall.
Donors to the oldmkvi Foundation will be Thanked.
Repeatedly.
With all due respect, you are hearing what you want to hear.
My network across a 5 bedroom house cost me no where near $4000.
Even adding in a NAS, or a host computer, running ethernet, and routers/switches it does not come close.
Second, OF COURSE the dealer recommends an expensive power supply. You do not not need it.
Again, this product is not for you. Keep what you got.
Hi,
Sorry, - but I don't understand the $4000.
Do you already have an USB DAC..
I get....
$640 for the mR
$50 for the iFI PSU
$20 for shipping.
Download a free copy of LMS to your current computer.
Maybe an $15 ethernet cable?
I get $725 or so, - but I guess that I'm missing something....

With all due respect that poster, he should stick with what he has. Offline research would be recommended.
A good dealer can demonstrate the moving parts of networked audio.
I am puzzled as to why he feels left out or "left behind". There are many new and cutting edge products that are above my pay grade, and I just let others get into them. I do not feel left out. There is no need for insecurity...
TIA again...
SonicOrbiter is the O/S that runs on the device. The Rendu is the hardware.
I suggest you take a pass. Your set up, with local playback, is much better for you I believe. If you don't have multiple systems, keep your current set up.
I will call them later to find out more.
I appreciate your response!
Hi,The SonicOrbiter is the name given to the OS of the microRendu AND the same OS that runs on another Sonore product (hardware) that is based on the Qubox mini-computer. That product that is the combination of the Qubox hardware and the SonicOrbiter OS is called the SonicOrbiter SE. (I know that it's confusing).
The Qubox is a small, 2" by 2" or so black square box mini computer that has a couple of USB ports, an HDMI port, & an optical port.
The SonicOrbiter OS that runs on both the microRendu and the SonicOrbiter SE is designed for great audio performance, and has an easy-to-use menu system that allows for several different types of networked server/player combinations that utilize USB output, or Optical.
It differs from the microRendu in that the hardware is an off-the-shelf mini PC, (QuBox).
Cheers,

Sorry, my first answer was technically correct SO is the O/S, but I also remembered Jesus was selling a box called the Sonicorbiter SE.
The Rendu and the Sonicorbiter (box) function the same. you do not need both.
The difference is the Rendu has a built in REGEN, much higher grade parts, and a custom mother board. One is a Toyota and one is a Porsche.
From the Computer or the Modem, or does it matter?
Where does the ethernet cable to the Rendu originate?
I've had a setup similar to the Rendu for several years now which I based on suggestions on this forum from John Swenson and others but have taken a long way since. (See link though ignore the monitor and other crud.) Even though my home-brew system works very well and, though I say so myself, sounds excellent, I'm sure the Rendu is a step up from that.
Think of the Rendu as an external soundcard connected to a desktop computer or similar via Ethernet. The computer doesn't have to be - preferably isn't - in your listening room. (Big plus for me.) It can be a Mac or a PC, a desktop or a laptop (a NAS even) and can be controlled using a keyboard, monitor and mouse as normal or a tablet or a phone or whatever the thumb-twiddling adolescent's device of the week happens to be. Call it a music server as that sounds good and is more or less correct. (I'm writing this note on a "server" which is also passing data to my music system, my Rendu-Precursor, as it were.
The program you use to control the setup - again, lots of choices and acronyms aplenty - allows you to select your digitised CD (or other source for those as likes them) and passes the music data from the server to the Rendu.
The Rendu in turn passes it to the DAC via a high-quality USB port. It has been designed to do one simple task but to do it very well, way better than a general-purpose computer ever could - precision timing, whisper-quiet power supplies, ne'er a hard disc in sight, etc etc.
As others are reporting, the sound quality from such a dedicated device is first-rate. It's also, once you get the hang of it, very convenient to use.

Excellent overview, thanks.
It does NOT originate from the "computer".
(The whole point of a microRendu and the like is there is no computer in the room.)
It originates from an Ethernet jack in the room (preferred).
Or
A wireless router

PS Audio has a video up that talks about their forthcoming USB over Ethernet product coming out in the Fall of 2016. They sourced this from another company.
I've been doing HDMI over dual ethernet for years which uses baluns at both ends and doesn't use a network. They have gotten cheap and good from places like Monoprice. If this USB/Ethernet thing catches on I predict they will get real cheap - probably less than one hundred for a pair in next to no time.
I would hope PSAudio will price their version agressively?
Same as retail price of the Icron unit they're OEMing
But PSAudio will be having Icron build in some "special" audio functionality
There was was a discussion about these below
Cheers

Hi and sorry to jump in and going very quickly OT.
May i ask which results have you got ?
Looking for a solution of usb over ethernet NON LAN i have noticed that while hdmi extenders are very common and not expensive usb extenders are few and very expensive.
I am not an expert but "extending" hdmi and high rez video signal is not an easy task.
Some of these units support signal rates up to 2.25 Gbps (!!!).
A nice solution would be a pci-e card and a remote ethernet to usb receiver to be placed close to the dac.
Even better a dac with a ethernet port ?https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dante_(networking)

https://us.focusrite.com/ethernet-audio-interfaces/rednetInteresting times. And bye bye usb ...
Thanks a lot for the very interesting information.
Kind regards,
bg
