and I'm still not sure WHAT I heard either time.
That said, I understand there is something to be said about encoding that uses SOME of the 24 bits, 'cause anything over 18 or so is just wasted bit depth (encoding/decoding Brownian motion?). If one were to use those bits to increase resolution rather than dynamic range?
As for the 'otherworldly' claims of SQ improvement, I didn't hear any of that in the demo and I didn't hear anything in the talk that would convince me that using some of the bits to encode more resolution in a stream would accomplish anything better that downloading a 24/96 file.
And unless they figure out a way to decode this stuff in my computer before it gets to the DAC, I'm not interested because, like inmate 'ahendler', I'm pretty much set for life with the two PCM1704U-K multi-bit DACs I have.
Bits are way too cheap to worry about wasting them. Way too cheap.
