With your XMOS dacs using OSX, do you have the Theyscon Control Panel (TSUBCpl.exe in Program file) whereby you can set usb buffers 6 ways from Minimum Latency to Extra Safe? Also ASIO buffers from small to large.
If you have this function either in Windows or MAC, how does changing buffer size affect sound quality?
Follow Ups:
The MSB Technology Thesycon driver for the Analog DAC has the Control Panel; the Wavelength does not.
The only time I have had to increase the buffer settings is with the JPlay Streamer to prevent it from crashing.
Otherwise, I notice no difference in sound quality changing the buffer from the default value.
Steve,
We have the same control panel they do.
Thanks,
Gordon

Thanks Gordon, I must have missed it. I guess I never noticed it because I never needed it with your DAC.
Steve,
Unlike other companies we went through and optimized the default values for the control panels before it ships.
Thanks,
Gordon

Why do you think that you can optimise for all systems when you are still on the old Theyscon driver? The 2.26 versions sound better than the 1.6x version anyway, and things have moved on.
Since I have the 1.6 version how do I get the newer version?
I don't think you can, unless your vendor gives it to you. From time to time, you may be able to get it on the Chinese Taobao/Baidu websites selling specific dacs by a vendor that is not customised, but they are not up for long.
You need patience.
Thanks
.
Were you using ASIO, or XCore ie KS? Try KS and see if Minimal Latency sounds different from Safe please.
I was using ASIO for the MSB. I have tried KS with JPlay and it sound very good with the lower buffer settings within the program. I see where you are going with this and you are probably right , at least for the MSB DAC.
The ASIO buffer seems to have been set at the 2048 value which is fairly common. In my experience, varying ASIO buffers does not have the same effect as varying the KS buffers, and there can be very big differences in transparency and SQ between lowest and highest values.
This leads me to the point. Those USB converters that have variable buffers lend themselves to as much user fine tuning as Tweak software.
Do you agree?

Yes, this can be true.
