What kind of preamp are you using, that affects resolution? Having an idea of what is in your signal path, from JRiver through preamp, will help these guys to give you the best possible advice.
I accidentally lowered the volume in the software for my dac, and it sounded bad. But that wasn't using the JRiver option. Why not try it, and trust your own ears?
I always like it when inmates have their system posted in the "Inmate Systems", as I can then see if they are using equipment I'm familiar with. I'm a real novice at PC audio, but have 45 years of overall audio experience, so once in a while, I can actually be of some help.

I was having some problems adding a system when I registered. I went back and finished in those details, I hope it is working now?Just to clarify I have not tried JRiver yet, I am going to install the demo this evening and give it a whirl. I currently have a CD transport going to my DAC

Well looking at your system, I wouldn't think that your preamp is hurting resolution.
I just got into PC audio, going with JRiver, there will be plenty of things you will want to do, before experimenting with volume. Overall I like JRiver although sometimes I can get lost in some of the settings. They do have a lot of instruction links and a Wiki. So far I have just followed their recommendations. I haven't tried fobar, and there are some on here who don't seem to like them for reasons other than sound quality or ease of use.
I looked up your dac online I don't see a usb input, how or what are you going to use to go from your PC to the dac?
