The issue isn't about the filter, but about how the device alters the signal fed into the usb to I2S interface, how that is powered, and perhaps how good the driver is.
With the XMOS/AK4495, power is good with separate 9-0-9 and 15-0-15 transformers thru New Class D 5V and LT1963 3.3V regulators.
Follow Ups:
OK. Wasn't aware that you don't own a Regen.
The Regen regenerates, reclocks and rebalances the USB data signal, as you know.
That's why the XMOS wouldn't have to cope with a crippled signal anymore.
If your DAC already has a filter inside - right in front of XMOS - the double (Jitterbug and DAC internal) passive filtering might cripple your data stream.
That probably wouldn't happen, if you'd have a passive/active/passive filtering in place.
I have a demo of the Audiobyte Hydra Z (with Regen and Jitterbug and without).
I am hoping that the Hydra with hdmi I2S output at up to 384k will be a better solution than many.
