I have switched entirely to PC playback for music and video, too. Even with hi rez material, I find it sounds a bit better, more relaxed and with slightly better imaging, than my previous Oppo 93 player with external DAC/processor via HDMI.
My love for the past 8 years has been hi rez multichannel classical material from SACD, BD-A and -V. I seldom listen to CDs or in stereo at all. I have about 3,000 hi rez discs in my library, mostly in DSD (dsf) format.
I used to listen via HDMI into an Integra prepro, first via the Oppo, then from the PC. Convinced that the PC is better sounding, I committed to eliminating the prepro with PC via USB into an Exasound e28 DAC, using Dirac Live and library player/control functions in JRiver with the excellent JRemote iPad interface. JRiver also interfaces with a TV/Cable tuner, eliminating my cable box. So, player, prepro and cable box are all now out of my system. It is a little flakier on occasion than separate audio/video components, but the sound is really way beyond my previous setups. Video quality is also at least as good, maybe slightly better.
I have compared various hi rez formats, up to 2x DSD and 352k PCM. DSD or 2x DSD sounds very good, but not nearly as good as converting it to 88K PCM (on the fly in JRiver) and listening via Dirac and with bass management to my sub. There are only very slight advantages to hi rez PCM over 96k or even over the 48K/24 bit PCM of BD-Vs.
I am a very happy man, much happier than my wildest audiophile dreams of a decade or more ago, even with a then very costly stereo system.

Cool. I've never seen these before. It sounds like you really like it. Can it be set as the default Windows audio device?
Not 100% sure, but, yes, I think its ASIO driver can be set as the default in Windows. That is not how I use it. Dirac Live room correction is the Wndows default Sound, and it links to the Exasound via Kernel Streaming, I think.
But, yes, the Exasound is awesome. So, is Dirac Live.
