Just like Presto the voice of calm reason...the bar is heavy enough to knock a cap or two loose, so its possible.
Thanks I needed that...
Guess I can put my Bus in park now...

I'd still question the poor design judgement of using silicone bathtub sealer to hold a heavy metal bar in place.
Gluing metal parts together is just bad design. A couple of rivets would have saved much embarrassment. I'd still like to know how the thing sounds. If it's a good sounding circuit one can DIY mod and improve the case.
Remember the Behringer DCX2496? It was $349 and came with the cheapest circuits audio knows how to build. Audiophile spent thousands trying to upgrade this product (with amazing processing capability) into an audiophile piece of gear.
So, it's no stretch to have an audiophile get this kit, see that the metal didn't fall off and then bolt it down properly.
Yeah it should be affixed properly. But when you're building products are this price point you can't add much in the way of human labor, additional machining, etc. steps, etc.
How much does this thing cost? At a few hundred I'd understand. In the thousands, this would be unacceptable.
All that said, I know of adhesives that would have worked like a charm there! ;)
Cheers,
Presto
The metal bar might not have only been there to "control" vibration, some very lightweight components need a little help so that connecting cables don't lift them into the air! But that said, I am not fond of gluing stuff together in an audio component, especially when the heavy parts are involved.
You mean you would not approve of a component maker making a product out of thin stock and gluing metal bars inside to make you think your audio gear is "Built like a Tank"

who says thin shell with glued mass isn't better than solid heavy shell, I'm sure they've done lots of research and their solution was optimal.

Yeah Optimal for their wallet...

At a few hundred I'd understand.$230 but I wouldn't be so kind in making excuses for the manufacturer. I would expect better. Come on, a metal bar and other components falling off clanking around inside the case? Is that acceptable?

Sounded like a box of cracker jacks.
Most manufacturers use heavy gauge enclosures instead of gluing metal bars inside.

Well, I know audiophiles who would have themselves a good chuckle that a bunch of guys in an audiophile website are talking about a product worth $230. Back in my hi-fi hayday, those were cheap cables. $2300 was an entry level CDP. You needed to drop $5K for the transport with tubed upsampling DAC to be in the big boys club.
Yes, a product should not arrive in pieces.
But if they fix this and it's a decent sounding kit for $230 then I think it's priced appropriately.
Another way to go is do what the Blue Circle guys did with their USB thingy - fill it with...stuff. Resin? Epoxy?
Can't fall apart and guy would need to destroy it to reverse engineer a schematic...
Cheers,
Presto
