Quality control = most not be any otherwise this would not have made it out the door.
Metal Bar = Pure deception, its meant to give the product the 'feel' of quality by adding weight.
Shame on you iFi..!!!

Sorry, that was a different thread.
Buy hey, if this keeps up you won't be able to buy from ANYONE and thing of all the money you'll save!
If the bars were all good at the time of inspection they were good.
The company has learned that aluminum case + Glue X + Metal bar coated with Y does not work. They should have spent the extra cost to use 2 screws to hold the bar. Two external screws mean something needed to be screwed there... like a chassis type thing.
I can't see why adding a bar to add weight is any different than having a 1/2" thick faceplate. By adding mass to a case, you're changing the frequencies at which it will resonate. That is physics. I won't go into differences in shielded and magic noise reduction...
So, yes, a glued in metal bar is proven to be too cheap. But had that bar been affixed properly it would still have functioned as changing the mass of the chassis. Those chassis are *VERY* light.
Not only would this change the way the chassis itself resonates, but things that are very light are also more susceptible to external vibrations like from... speakers!
Sure, you could put feet on this thing and put a velvet covered brick on top of it to damp it.
The bar fell off and in shipping knocked some caps loose.
If they correct this design flaw, and I liked the product and it sounded good, i would not scratch them from a list. I'd rather deal with a company that learns from it's mistakes than deal with one that thinks it never makes any!
Bla bla bla my babbling is over. That's my 20 cents!
haha.
Cheers,

Thank you...
It is not good to immediately think that manufactures must be inherently underhanded.
is how to convey a message without the tones of anger.
In addition, how to formulate a thought into a reasonable, sensible answer which instead of provoking someone to be defensive, provokes thought.

You are kidding. Maybe you should not think everyone is inherently dishonest. You took the time to take pictures and make a defamatory post, look within yourself.

Just like Presto the voice of calm reason...the bar is heavy enough to knock a cap or two loose, so its possible.
Thanks I needed that...

I'd still question the poor design judgement of using silicone bathtub sealer to hold a heavy metal bar in place.
Gluing metal parts together is just bad design. A couple of rivets would have saved much embarrassment. I'd still like to know how the thing sounds. If it's a good sounding circuit one can DIY mod and improve the case.
Remember the Behringer DCX2496? It was $349 and came with the cheapest circuits audio knows how to build. Audiophile spent thousands trying to upgrade this product (with amazing processing capability) into an audiophile piece of gear.
So, it's no stretch to have an audiophile get this kit, see that the metal didn't fall off and then bolt it down properly.
Yeah it should be affixed properly. But when you're building products are this price point you can't add much in the way of human labor, additional machining, etc. steps, etc.
How much does this thing cost? At a few hundred I'd understand. In the thousands, this would be unacceptable.
All that said, I know of adhesives that would have worked like a charm there! ;)
Cheers,
Presto
The metal bar might not have only been there to "control" vibration, some very lightweight components need a little help so that connecting cables don't lift them into the air! But that said, I am not fond of gluing stuff together in an audio component, especially when the heavy parts are involved.
You mean you would not approve of a component maker making a product out of thin stock and gluing metal bars inside to make you think your audio gear is "Built like a Tank"

who says thin shell with glued mass isn't better than solid heavy shell, I'm sure they've done lots of research and their solution was optimal.

Yeah Optimal for their wallet...

At a few hundred I'd understand.$230 but I wouldn't be so kind in making excuses for the manufacturer. I would expect better. Come on, a metal bar and other components falling off clanking around inside the case? Is that acceptable?

Sounded like a box of cracker jacks.
Most manufacturers use heavy gauge enclosures instead of gluing metal bars inside.

Well, I know audiophiles who would have themselves a good chuckle that a bunch of guys in an audiophile website are talking about a product worth $230. Back in my hi-fi hayday, those were cheap cables. $2300 was an entry level CDP. You needed to drop $5K for the transport with tubed upsampling DAC to be in the big boys club.
Yes, a product should not arrive in pieces.
But if they fix this and it's a decent sounding kit for $230 then I think it's priced appropriately.
Another way to go is do what the Blue Circle guys did with their USB thingy - fill it with...stuff. Resin? Epoxy?
Can't fall apart and guy would need to destroy it to reverse engineer a schematic...
Cheers,

You are totally clueless. smh...
What?
Where those caps supposed to be extra parts?
Clue me in....

Obvious it was damaged in shipping. You are saying extra parts, you mean broken, correct?
I really doubt you stupid assumption of to metal to make it feel heaver to fool people is correct. It takes someone who has an underhanded way of thinking to come up with that one. Maybe that's how you do things.
So WHY glue a metal bar to the inside top of the case?
Can you answer that without dancing around the subject, insults or going off on tangents?
Dynobots Audio

Perhaps Bob_C thinks the metal bar glued in place with Home Depot bathtub sealer is 'audiophile vibration damping'. And they even included extra spare parts IN THE BOX so you wouldn't lose them. haha!liFi you're really lucky maybe you'll find a soldering pencil and a length of solder next time!
Edits: 08/16/15
Audiophile damping bar stock.
I wonder why nobody else has notice the metal bar 'glued' to the inside of the case.
People have taken this thing apart ever since it was introduced. Without the bar it does fell cheap though...

You every think that maybe people complained about it moving around with everything connected. Why do you have to come up with a shady reason. Not everyone need to fool people.
LOL...Moving around?
Its connected to an audio system, not a Cat. Last I checked my audio gear doesn't move around.
FYI, with or without the Metal Bar, its position on my desk or any other place remains the same.
Very weak excuse....you wouldn't happen to be a groupie would you??
You sound very protective...
How often do parts come loose during shipping...soldered parts? Never seen it happen.

Hey Bob,
the tone of your writing suggests that you are quite a little more on than the original poster...
Bob gets mad when people accuse the ones he love is all.
Normal human response to protect the ones you love, however if he claims not to love iFi and its designer then something is strange.
I don't think Bob is strange....:-)

Come back, Dyno.
You made a perfectly reasonable post but it seems some folks obviously prefer you to sugar-coat reality.

Hey Sox, yeah I think I'll pay the GD a visit. If this had happened to a Chinese made product everyone would have taken turns running over them with the bus...all reason and sugar coating out the door.
Because its American made and designed by the beloved JS all is immediately forgiven.

I think you mean "dummies." ;)

You are correct the plural of dummy is dummies, but he is actually just a singular possessive dummy. It will be added to the Oxford English Dictionary in his honor.
Don't worry about it, Bob_C. I try not to grammar Nazi folks, but when the entire point of a post is to impugn the intelligence of another poster, if you're not impeccable, then you're fair game.
Were I you, I'd forget the OED and instead get a small dictionary that you can quickly thumb through. Also, the below linked text got me through many a term paper!

The use of nouns as verbs is called "verbing," a subset of the more generalized anthimeria, where one part of speech is used as another part of speech. Look it up. It is common usage in English and has been so for centuries.

Of course we don't expect you to be able to understand the difference between a simple typo and a gross misuse of grammar such as plural vs.
possessive.

But please do keep posting here as swapping out various brands of 'audiophile' ethernet patch cords gets boring after a time.
