I would recommend an OPPO BDP103D. It accepts USB flash drives and even USB hard drives with all digital formats from MP3 through 16/44 WAV through 24/192 PCM and even DSD. It plays CDs and SACDs as well as Blu-Ray discs and DVDs. Check it out. I bought them for my grown children for Christmas so I could give them all my digital music on a 4-TB USB hard drive that plugs directly into the OPPO BDP-103D.

This is a great recommendation for my adult children. I am seriously thinking of following your lead.
I am a 72 yo parent who thinks my age group is being insulted in this thread. My age cohort might not all be motivated to do the full computer audio bit and some might be unable but most are simply being under-rated.
I am nearly as old as you and I do have to admit that when it comes to computer know how the youngsters are much better at it.
Getting old is an handicap we should not be ashamed of.

Thank you all for your responses. The oppo looks nice but as I understand it if playing from the usb hard drive they would have to turn the tv on every time in order to choose and play a ripped cd. If so, I will stick with the 5 or 6 disc changer. If any of you have recommendations for a good sounding one, that would be greatly appreciated. Denon, Marantz and Philips have been mentioned. They are currently using a sony dvd/cd player NC800H.

This is true, but most people know how to turn on their TV. I think it would be a lot easier than learning how to use a computer audio system. You can do everything from the OPPO remote control.
I got into computer audio nearly three years ago, but I didn't like using the computer for audio playback. When I discovered the OPPO BDP-105D, it was the perfect solution for me because I like watching movies and streaming Netflix just as much as I like listening to music. My system is fully balanced and that's why I went with the OPPO BDP-105D with its balanced outputs. Now, the OPPO BDP-105D is the heart of my entertainment system. I play it several hours every day. It is so convenient because all my audio and video needs are satisfied with the OPPO BDP-105D.
I used to play vinyl records, but I haven't played a record in months. Most of my favorite LPs have been copied to digital, so I listen to them via the OPPO BDP-105D.
Perhaps a CD changer would be better for your parents, but for me the OPPO is the best solution because I have thousands of albums already in the high-resolution digital format.

Do you have an iOS or Android tablet or smart phone? If so, try one of the control apps.
I find that browsing media files using the D-pad on the Oppo remote is slow and cumbersome compared to touch screen browsing.
I spend more time watching movies and streaming Netflix than I spend listening to music. However, I organize my music onto USB flash drives that connect directly to the OPPO. I find the remote control very easy to use.
Best regards,
John Elison
Just pointing out to the OP that a TV is not really needed to drive an Oppo for music playback.
