Hi there.
Just tested the today released UPNP renderer functionality of
USB Audio Player Pro on Android.
Works nice on my LG G3 (Android 5.0).
As server I use my LogitechMediaServer, which also acts as UPNP server (enabled via plugin) in my configuration.
Connecting the app to the server was a no-brainer.
UAPP managed transfers of upto 24/96-flacs over air on my network.
Bottom line.
IMO - A nice, well integrated and good sounding audio and now audio networking option for your Android device.
Follow Ups:
Just curious why anyone would want to listen to their Android via UPNP.
Are you using it at home?
At work -does your job allow you to create a UPNP?- do you want too?
Assuming you are listening to local 'served' files via UPNP, does it sound better than Google Play?
Do you look for ultimate sound quality in Android or convenience a balance of both or one more than the other?
Personally if I am on-the-go at home ie cutting grass etc sound is not that serious and any internet radio will do with any number of cans, ear-buds. If I am stationary, Android would be my last choice to listen via cans or any other.

Hi and thanks for the very interesting info.
But i do not understand what is your complete system
LG G3 is connected to what ? are you using and OTG cable ?
I have been testing cheap android media players with a usb to aes converter and the resulting sound is not at all worse than when the same converter is driven by a win 7 pc (not optimized i am afraid).
Only much cheaper solution.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,

Hi,
My system may help. This is all for travel.
Source is Sony Xperia Z Ultra or Xperia Z2 Phone or Xperia Z2 Tablet, all on Android Lollipop.
OTG Cable to either one of the battery powered USB DAC's the company I work for makes.
Either modified Fostex T-50 Planar Headphones directly from the larger DAC or Kings Sound Electrostatic Headphones with their new portable battery powered Amplifier.
When using speakers it is in my Office System (Gainclone Amp driving custom 2-Way with 5.25" Wavecor Bass and Magnetic Planar Tweeter) or my travel setup, which is HiVi SW-3SE "Eyeball" 3" Fullrange with Class D "Pocket Amp" from the RCA out...
Music includes anything that goes on Transflash, including DSD up to DSD256 and PCM at 352.8/384kHz.

At 20 bits, you are on the verge of dynamic range covering fly-farts-at-20-feet to untolerable pain. Really, what more could we need?
Nice on the go gear
Personally I use a Nexus 5 with either Sony MDR-V6 or Beyerdynamic t51p...no mods. Any number of standard Internet radio or local files will do nicely.
On-the-Go ie Gym, Work, Vacation, etc....files stored on Google Play or any local file works fine. Have no idea why UPNP is a selling point.

Hi,
> Have no idea why UPNP is a selling point.
You may have to blame me (and likely others), I asked Davey to add some form of network playback. Seems he went over board.
To me network playback is useful at home or in the office.

Hi and thanks a lot for the very valuable advice.
I think i have found the problem. I was trying to use UAPP with other apps and i read that is not possible.
But this is strange because i am quite sure that previously it worked even with VLC.
After update this is not possible anymore.
I am using some media players as sources.
Of course specific drivers for Android would solve the issue.
I wonder if drivers for Linux would work also with Android OS.What intrigues me of Android is that it can work with extremely poor HW resources. Like 512MB or RAM and only 8GB of ROM.
I am not sure if this qualifies it as a "light" OS by the way.
Thanks again.
Kind regards,

I don't use my G3 as transport in my main systems. I'm just following up on options that come with this device. The UAPP UPNP feature is afaik the first solution under Android that lets you stream bit-perfect to your DAC.
I thought that's worth a post.
I'm running two systems @home.
1. Main system
Cubitruck + SoA + SW filters/crossover + RME Fireface UCX (DIY power supply and DIY cable and USB filter) + Abletec amps
2. Living room
RPI B+ + SoA + JLSOUNDS 5102DAC (DIY power supply and DIY cable and USB filter) + SMSL SA160 amplifier
Hi and thanks for the very helpful reply.
I am open to consider even cheap solutions without prejudice.
You say " I don't use my G3 as transport in my main systems "
bu have you tried it maybe ?
My reasoning is simple. I have the feeling that very simple OS have a potential to sound very good, and android is indeed simple and light OS.
So it is promising.
I have found some converters/dacs that are compatible with UAPP and i am using them with good results
I am using mostly Videolan player app for Android.
But i am looking for something that could be even better.
The search is on and if you have any suggestion i will appreciate that.
Not that Videolan sounds bad, actually the opposite.
I have found 2nd android media player little as 50 USD in the used things market here.
Ok ... a UAPP compatible usb dac is also required.
Thanks a lot again.

A stock Android is neither simple nor it is light nor it is mature.
It's probably worse then a Windows system.
You'll have tons of services and processes (incl. bloatware) running in parallel.
You'll have all kind of HW modules running at the same time.
And all that hooked up to a single battery.
Then there are serious flaws like memory leakages asf asf.
I don't think my Android devices will soon be used as 1st choice audio transport.
Hi despite the kind and valuable advice being stubborn i have played the all day with an Android media player
You are right ... it is a joke ... both SW and HW.
i got a nervous breakdown
No more questions on this OS.
I will stay on my good old Seven.
Thanks a lot again for the valuable advice.
Kind regards,

Hi,
I have been using mostly the Sony "Walkman HD" App to play music on my Sony's in recent times.
But USB Audio Player Pro is used if I have real high end gear attached (think iDSD micro, battery powered Kings Sound Electrostatic Headphone Amp and Electrostatic Headphones) instead of just casual listening and I find UAPP excellent. Though I play from local SD Cards...
I did manage to stream 192K and DSD at the office. But why carry a server when 64G transflash cards are dirt cheap and easily swapped and hold many albums worth?

You probably won't carry 1-2TB material around on your SD cards. ;)As I said. It is just another option. But. It's one of the very few good sounding streaming options now. (actually I wouldn't be able to tell if there's another option supporting external DACs and native srates under Android)
And it IMO works (sounds) better than e.g. squeezeplayer.

Both SDXC and microSDXC are currently at 512GB.
At these capacities they ain't cheap, but they are available if you want them.
By late 2016, I'm sure we'll see 1TB SDXC cards become available and microSDXC cards not too long after.
Hi,

Right now 640G... :P

Sony Walkman does, on Sony's Xperia Z range (which is what I use). As it applies ASRC I think UAPP sounds better, but I may be hearing things.
> And it IMO works (sounds) better than e.g. squeezeplayer.
I would not know about that.
