You are old. You are grey (and probably fat too). But you know who the fuck Tay-Tay is and she just took Apple down. That is not small people. Grok something important for a moment and perhaps ignore Spazzy Moutha for a day (I know it's hard). A 26 year old just took the biggest company in the world to task and won. What did you do today??

and yes, paying artists during the 90 day trial period may be 'NEWS' but it's a rounding error for Apple.
And the amount to be paid remains unsettled as artists were to be paid a 'percentage' of Apple's revenue after the 90 day trial period, not per play.
Interesting side note, even on other streaming services that offer free 30 day introductory trials, the artists were not paid for that usage.
Will this force Spotify, TIDAL, DEEZER, etc. to pay artists during their free trials? What about the discounted cut that Spotify pays artists for ad sponsored streaming?
Do you remember those trial or startup offers from Columbia House (etc.) during the LP/cassette/CD days? Artists weren't paid for those sales either, not that "10 albums for 10 cents" etc. is a payday.
Not suggesting it was ever right, but it was something agreed to by somebody, directly or indirectly, and I'm just saying it's not new. Plenty of (their own) artists didn't opt in, or more likely, specifically opted out.
Luckily most artists are much better informed these days, somebody's always trying to screw them. It is just as bad at all levels of the entertainment business when you're new/unestablished/not especially popular.
