I thought you said you liked the RCA output better?
What speed did you order? They recommended the 96kHz sampling rate output when I talked to them this AM. The Marantz seems happy with that. It's not the last word anyway as decent DACs with S/PDIF input are available all over the place.
Might even build a Audio Note non-oversampling DAC from a kit someday.
Big weakness on most DACs IMNSHO is the USB input anyway and with this purchase now done with USB and computers.
I hope.
Follow Ups:
I use the Optical with my reference DAC, I am also fortunate enough to have another DAC in my system, so I use the SPDIF as well with a second DAC. I use both. Sound is great from both, I think the SPDIF was more smooth and listenable, however at least in my system the Optical had a more lively high end at the upper frequencies. So for day to day listening I am using Optical. Again the music I listen to is not mainstream, so it benefits from a more lively performance, especially at the upper frequencies.
I went with set at 96, keep in mind that will only upsample, it does not mean that it supports high-res content.
DAC kits sound cool, that is interesting, I will look into Audio Note.
Yes if your music is all at CD quality and you like the lossless streaming services then you are all good, no need for a PC. I have a PC in my system, rarely use it myself :)
That I own, lots (?thousands?) of Classical vinyl and two TT's (one for the wife), few thousands CD's that wife keeps organize by composer, plus a few SACD's.
Still, most of our listening these days is Lossless FLAC streaming over the internet. Unless or until the labels turn off the spigot, then I'll just crank up the record cleaning machine, which will keep me busy till they're ready to bury me. =:-0
i have about 2,000 compact discs. Since the Sonos Connect and Deezer Elite lossless streaming service, haven't had to rip or buy anything. I don't even keep network storage on. I had 4 about terabytes of rips that I don't need anymore.
Assuming it does.
Assuming the CD player(s) in your system is up to the level of the rest of your system, how would you rate the SQ of Lossless FLAC streaming of Deezer through your upgraded SONOS Connect to that of playing the same tunes from a CD? Or from network storage?
At this point, QOBUZ streamed from the USB port of a MacBook Air into the Marantz NA-7004 are not quite up to the level of a CD played on a Marantz DV-9600, a $2000 multi-disk spinner in its day and better at SACD and DVA than CD.
I'm hoping for better using the SONOS Connect, especially if I spring for the Wired4sound upgrade.
while not the last letter in resolution or high end detail, pretty damn good to not make me get up off my couch to play a physical disk.
Still might get up and spin some vinyl now and then though. ;-)
my turntable is retired. It doesn't do anything ...
Cheers!
