All my Toshiba USB hard drives work just fine. I have a number of Toshiba USB-powered hard drives up to 2-TB each that all work fine. I have a Samsung 4-TB USB hard drive that uses an external power supply that works just fine, too. The only problem with USB hard drives is that they remain running whenever the Oppo is being used for other things like playing DVDs and streaming music and movies from the internet; therefore, I bought some 256-GB USB flash drives and loaded my favorite music onto them. However, my Oppo works just fine with every USB hard drive I've ever connected to it.
Best regards,
John Elison

Is there an app to display what the Oppo is playing from a flash drive/HHD?
I might get one for just playing music, but I do not wish to mount a monitor in the listening room.
Yes! There are apps.
I guess I should get cracking with some 256 GB flash drives, leave the Mac in the other system, and just leave the NAD in its slot for Region 3 sourced DVDs.

These are the ones I use.
