The power lines went down last night and when I restarted my XP PC this morning iTunes was pointing to an old version of my library. I want it to point to the up to date library on the external drive. Question is, how?

Preferences -> Advanced -> Media Library Location
Thanks, Steve. That's not doing it. I think I need to rebuild the library. iTunes is showing a good chunk but not all of my music that's on the external drive. If I look at the external drive I can see everything, but not everything is showing in iTunes. Suggestions?
I don't understand why you can see some but not all.If you could see none I would suggest setting the library location to the place where the files already exist, turn OFF 'copy files to media folder' and then 'add to library' specifying that same location.
However in your current state you might end up with duplicates.
You could delete the entire iTunes folder (not the music files of course) and do the above.

I don't know how, but I got everything to show in iTunes, but most every item is replicated three times and I ended up with nearly 112,000 tracks and nearly 3 GB!!!!!
I best open that bottle of wine and begin manually deleting the dupes. What a freakin' mess. I am so tired of iTunes.
really don't know anything about it though...
does it remove dupes that are on "best of" or "various artists" or compilation albums? I have many, many dupes but they appear on different issues besides the original album...
