Hi folks.Anybody tried the rather new full digital amp from Denon, the PMA-50?
It comes with all bells and whistles incl. BT aptX.
It uses the same DDFA technology as you find e.g. in the NAD M51 DAC.
The device even supports DSD.
All at $500.
It lacks network support though. But this you can manage through apt-X, or
a Raspberry Pi as streamer via USB.Could be an interesting device to integrate stereo and video/TV (e.g via toslink) and streaming (Qobus/Tidal through Android/iOS) into a quality living room system at a reasonable pricetag. Beside that it's small and IMO looks quite nice.
Maybe it's worth a try.
Cheers

For me this type of device represents my future. I would like to read comparative reviews between this Denon, the Nuprime, Devialet, NAD, etc. Almost all the music I listen to is streamed and I personally see no need for expensive equipment that has the last word in audio perfection.

Thx a lot for the link.
Sounds really promising.
I'll get me one to give it a try.
Cheers
Dear Soundchekk,
Being very satisfied with the DDX320 tweaked, thanks a lot ;-) for your blog page about it, I'm awaiting your impressions about the PMA-50 with great impatience.
Best Regards,
Alain
Previously you would have made a comment about how $500 was too much to pay and the same functionality could be bought for under $100, does this mean that you see it as good value for money at $500 ?

I think you're mixing up things.
If you spread such a nonsense, please don't forget to post any references.
And don't forget . First read, then understand what's written, after that you think and then you should write! I think you missed out two steps.
If you want to start a general discussion about value or value for the money feel free to start a new thread.
Do you mean I'm mixing you up with another Soundcheck from Dusseldorf ?The Soundcheck I used read commented in every post that he had made it cheaper for less than a $100 and it sounded much better and how the hifi manufacturers were ripping people off.
If I've mixed you up with another Soundcheck then I apologise.
Now a few learning points for you - don't patronise people, read what they post, don't be so thin skinned, learn some humility.

Good on ya, mate!!

In SGBK's linked post, Soundchekk is talking about a streaming client for $100. The PMA-50 is not a streaming client. Also, the bit about "learning points" is over the top, IMO. Sounds to me like SGBK has an axe to grind.
SBGKs intention was obvious.
I do have a history with SBGK. I know him. He used to highjack other threads. It's useless to start discussions with him.
He is not the type of guy who stays close to facts all the time.
Or to say it differently. He tends to mix up things.
Let's not talk about attitude.
He has been banned from other forums.
I don't want to complain though.
I'm challenging people. People challenging me.
There are people having a bad day or two or more.
Others just exist to highjack any thread they'll find without ever contributing any valuable information.
Others just try to hit below the belt.
Others want to do business.
That's the game.
Bottom line. He could have just looked up my profile to see what system I own or used to own. That alone should have brought up some questions on his statements.
My profile would have even confirmed what was said in the link reference he referred to.
However. Let's talk a bit about $100 gadgets:
I still enjoy my $100 RPI B+ implementation (incl. onboard mods and PS).
I still enjoy my $100 S.M.S.L SA-160 amp.
I still enjoy my $100 Cubitruck Server - which also acts as active crossover hooked up to a $1200 RME DAC (shame on me)
I still enjoy my $100 JLsounds DAC (wouldn't replace it with a ifi Nano or Dragonfly - which I had at home for testing)
As a matter of fact. I think a lot can be done nowadays for $100. Especially when you're not afraid of heating up a soldering iron.
Cheers
