In Reply to: RE: How to keep SOTM SMS-100 locked to DAC after switching out? posted by Sprezza Tura on March 24, 2015 at 13:14:08
Thanks, guys.
I haven't tried just unplugging and plugging as this would almostmean as much trouble as restarting, and I am hoping that I can just switch in and out.
As for sound, with a custom linear supply that I had someone built for me, it is a good step up from the sbt (both running through the chain of ifi stuff ) . Cleaner, smoother , bigger, deeper. Much like a better CD player. Haven't really listed to usb direct to dac with the sotm. The sbt via usb had a weird glitch with the esoteric that sounded like a momentary off pitch every now and then, and I used the ifi in between since then.
Follow Ups:
I had the same findings..the SOtM was clearly superior to the already very good SBT.
Can you clarify...you say:
"Haven't really listed to usb direct to dac with the sotm" I am bit confused, because the only way to connect a DAC with the SOtM is with USB...
Or did you mean you have not tried connecting a storage device into one of the USB slots?
I meant I've been using a Ddc between the esoteric and sotm, and not directly into the esoteric.
Understood.
Just tried running the sotm directly into the esoteric for a while. Soundwise, it was alright, but it seems that the sound with the ifi ddc in the chain is More ballsy. Also, there seems to be a glitch with the driver when playing high res via usb direct ( there was some stutter ) . So, the ifi is back into the chain for now.Interesting news is that restarting squeezelite only seems to be able to make connection with the newly connected usb dac/ddc so it was reasonably easy ( vs restarting the sotm )
