Good question. Many streamers allow you to use a web browser, for example the Bryston BDP-2 and a load of others.Another bonus is you can continue to use your Itunes library if you wish and control it with the Apple remote. There are some good options.
I absolutely prefer using an Ipad.
BTW, the apps are totally agnostic as far as genre..they only work as well as the tags on the files. I have a good amount of classical too and my control apps read them fine because I make sure the tagging is perfect.

Could you give more details on your set up? It looks very interesting. Where is your music sitting and how do you tag it?
To be as concise as possible.
I have 8TB of music sitting on two G-Tech 4 TB drives attached to a mac mini. I run MiniMserver software. This library serves three full systems via ethernet. One system is a Simaudio 380D DSD DAC with the MiND streaming module built in, one is an outboard MiND 180 streamer feeding a Bryston BDA-2 via AES/EBU, and a SOtM Mimi Server feeding another BDA-2 via USB.
I have everything stored in FLAC. CD rips CD quality downloads, and HD downloads. FLAC (and ALAC) is a dream for ease of tagging.
I tag all CD rips at the time of the rip, with art, and 100% accurate album, artist, etc info with XLD.
If I have to correct any tags I use the amazing little tagging utility called xACT.
I have found most of the downloads I have purchase have tags I find acceptable. In the cases where I want to change, them I simply use xACT to change the art, the album title, etc.
I use an iPad and the appropriate app, Simaudio has their own, to scroll and play any file or folder, everything organized by artist and album.
Hope this helps.
Thanks! Very helpful.
Ur welcome!
There is certainly more than one way to skin a cat...my approach is what I prefer..and that is the path of least resistance, superb sonics, and ease of access to my library. I use free tools like XLD, MiniMserver, and Xact, save 60% of my hard drive space by using FLAC, and I have total isolation between my computer and my DAC.
Of course, YMMV.
Yes, I quite like your approach. There's great appeal in having one library and being able to play in multiple locations with great sound. And using free tools is great
My sticking point library management & play control. I tried again Apple's iPad Remote app and, unless I'm doing something wrong, I found it quite hard to navigate through > 1500 tracks composed by JS Bach. Something like the column browser in iTunes would be helpful. I need to investigate if other remote apps are more akin to what I like.
Well I really like when manufacturers write their own apps..like Simaudio and Bryston did. They are in tune with the hardware and it just works.
I can post screen shots of the MiND app with classical titles later this week.
Others I use are Audionet, MConnect, and Denon. There are some very good premium ones as well.
Thanks! Screenshot would be helpful. Which of the iPad apps, including premium ones, do you think are best for browsing classica?
Hmmm... I've used the Apple Remote app with Apple TV and don't like it that much. I much prefer controlling from the iMac itself.
How do you tag and what program do you use for tagging?
