Thanks for the thread. I'll look forward to seeing its progress - JRiver seems to get a pretty rough ride in this forum.
However, the guy in the Apple store who sold me my MacMini seems to like JRiver for its ease of interface, including its iPad app for control.
But, others seem to think it is PC oriented, and not as good a fit with OSX.
So, now I'll just tiptoe away, make some popcorn, and watch the show.
Follow Ups:
That's a good plan!
Jriver for Mac doesn't have the DSD 128 thing yet, so it is behind the Windows version in terms of development, but their engineers were praised by the 2 people I spoke with at Mytek, as well as the MC 20 for Mac.
As a Mac user, I don't know if something happened in the download or what, but occasionally as I was listening, in between tracks, JRMC generated this HUGE burst of noise that sent the cat bolting from the room and my wife into heart palpitations. So I don't dare use JRMC these days. (My wife jokingly asked if we could sue them for mental anguish!) I just assumed they were further along in their development on the PC than they were on the Mac, but I'm not eager to take a chance with them again.
So I've been using Audirvana, but things are not entirely well with Audirvana either: somehow, after about 3-4 months of use, it started to lose the right rear channel during multichannel playback. (And indeed the Audirvana readout shows playback of a 4.1 file rather than a 5.1 file, even though the DAC readout shows 5.1 conversion still available.) The actual AIFF files are OK, and all 5.1 channels of the multi-channel files play back fine with VLC Media Player, so I'm thinking something must have gotten corrupted with the Audirvana SW.
I only use 2 Ch Stereo, but no problems at all here.
2 people at Mytek recommended JR over AV.
The engineers at JR developing the Mac MC20 version were praised as being Smart Guys who are doing great work.
Are all the settings correct?
There are sub-menus to find and check stuff.
I've got the Videos from ted_b, will be watching soon. Also, Mytek Software Set-up guide might have something that was missed. ( of course, Mytek is 2 ch ).
I inadvertently changed a setting in AV+ last week, wouldn't play DSD128 for a while, until I found the problem, and un-checked a box.
Computers and Software can be Maddening, I'm sure we'll all agree!
