It will tell you when a CD or the optical drive is failing you.

Another obvious first - which a good half of the responses to the OP have missed - is to read the question given that it had nothing to do with AccurateRip, HDDs or whatever. He/she asked about suitable CD-ROM drives. A couple of us have made suggestions; hopefully, one or more will prove useful.

Might it be that the dBpoweramp reliability list (indeed how good is a specific optical drive in ripping a CD) is an answer in line with the OP?
