heard from Aune, they told me to read the manual.
haha, ok, no luck with getting DOP working the way we thought.
I would say stick with PS Audio or similar products if you really want to do that.
What I've been doing is using Foobar2000 to upsample all audio to DSD 128 via the USB output, that has been working quite nicely.
The DAC sounds good, I'm still getting used to the sound. It does not sound mid-fi, and I've heard high end in my system for over 15 years, just a bit different than that, but definitely not mid-fi. Maybe approaching high end sound, or it could be high end just different. Very hard to describe what I am trying to get at with the sound. Put it this way it is not the best, but not bad at all. It is a different sound altogether. My Yamaha CD-S1000 sounds better playing SACD if that means anything. Although I am listening to different content, the sound of the Aune is sort of a strand of DNA compared to the two strands of the Yamaha, it has the necessary qualities, just not the complete living execution.
Follow Ups:
There is another one that claims DOP via aes but also has I2S input via a
hdmi socket.
Gustard dac X12
i read a review that compared the two and they said the Gustard was better.
Can I have the review link please. The Gustard is also cheaper
sure, see link. More of a message board than a review, but a comparison anyway.
OTOH, the Gustard doesn't cut the mustard with headphones unless you use a separate headphone amp.
So how would you rate the headphone output of the AUNE using something like the HD600 or equivalent impedance and quality?
I'm looking for a decent sounding combo DAC/Headphone amp for mostly USB output of a laptop listening to mostly CD quality steams from QOBUZ, TIDAL and CD rips.
i haven't even tested headphones with it, I have it in my reference system using balanced outputs into a Bel Canto Pre3, out to a Bel Canto REF 500s amplifier, into Gallo Ref 3.5's.
could you plug 'em in and report back?
TIA
Looks to be right in my strike zone price wise, if it will drive a decent audiophile grade headphone.
all I have is a pair of Grado SR 60
Just curious.
the Aune has a larger headphone plug than what is on my Grado's. Sorry man it took me so long to get back. I couldn't do the experiment.
