It is a Gateway Laptop. CPU is AMD A4-5000. Drive C is a 500 gig and the ram has been increased from 4 to 8 gig. I have retained wifi function and virus protection so I can download off the net. I am also using one of the lesser invasive Fadelizer settings.

That is actually a pretty low power CPU. You will not really be able to to any up sampling to DSD successfully. You should have no problem playing DSD files though. Or any other resolutions for that matter. If they do not play, there is something else going on. When actually playing music, disable whatever you can Anti Virus etc.
I was afraid it might come down to that being the main reason. I have a Toshiba laptop with the intel I5 processor. I guess I will download media center and give it a try.
