the window shows the PCM rate at 44.1, if this is all hardware conversion I don't think it would say it.
Either it is crazy Chinese engineers chain smoking cigarettes and DOP is default in the firmware or it is not.
The only verification I have is I read somewhere the DAC was cited as "a pure DSD DAC" I looked at the flow chart, DOP 64 says supported throughout the chain, with the exception of USB where it says DOP 128.
I have no other way to verify, the sound is superb as I've said, a poor mans PS Audio DirectStream DAC for $600-$700.
Follow Ups:
the dsd bit clock is actually 44.1k
I'm not certain. It does sound very good. I hooked up a transport to the Coax connection, very nice sound.
Nowhere does it say it is doing anything, I suspect it is either under the hood actively doing it, or not doing anything at all.
but perhaps the FGPA? Or in the computer somehow.
Perhaps a control panel somewhere?
I emailed them, but they are off on Chinese New Year for the next few days, not sure what is possible. If I do get an answer and figure it out I'll let you know.
I tried the software and went into the folder, all I see is a firmware update application and a DAC status app.
the DAC App? Sometimes in there. You may even be able to configure things like buffers.
what do you mean, the app that is built into Windows?
I'll take a look...
that you mentioned.
all it does is display that it is active, I emailed Aune, once they are back from holiday (Chinese new year), and if they get back to me I'll let you know.
You seem as interested in it as I am :) It does sound great so far, also I've been upsampling FLAC to DSD 128 on the fly with Foobar2000, sounds pretty damn good IMHO.
it is the only lower priced unit with decent 22m and 24M XOs that generate the hirez streams.
Most China and even US stuff have mixed and/or questionable ones.
fmak,
I will give you a heads up if I hear back, should be interesting.
I am not certain, but if it is possible to send DSD signals out to coax, that might be what they are talking about ., I read something about DSD over PCM, not sure either way this is all new to me.
What I have been doing is using Windows software to up sample to DSD 128 everything I play. When I do play DSD to the unit it is either that or pure DSD 128 albums that I have bought or created myself. I don't know and don't think now that the hardware is up sampling everything PCM related to DSD. If that is indeed not the case the DAC on its own sounds glorious. I say for $600 which is the price I paid for it, it is worth it.
But that is just IMHO. Your results will vary, the other DAC I was looking at Earlier was a similar priced one from Teac, but I decided on a whim to go with Aune, and I am happy. The only change I did was connect a higher end powercord to it, and a little bit better USB cable, nothing crazy.
Anyways if something changes in terms of information I hear from Aune or what have you and I find out something new about the DAC I will let you know ...
Take care,
