In Reply to: RE: Aune Audio S16 DSD DAC initial thoughts using Windows 10 preview posted by bullethead on February 20, 2015 at 18:47:52
A pity that the DAC doesn't seem to work under Linux.
The DAC runs an XMOS interface chip. Most XMOS DACs seem to work under recent kernels.Did you run some initial troubleshooting?
I once wrote a little trouble shooting guide for USB Audio interfaces
under Linux:http://soundcheck-audio.blogspot.de/2014/04/shoot-trouble-usb-audio-interfaces.html
Cheers

I only tried it with Daphile linux, Linux did see the DAC, maybe it is the kernel, plus Daphile is testing right now. I will try Chromium today, which is what I usually use.The inputs seems to be stuck on 32/384k with linux, I will try fiddling, or wait until next Ubuntu release.

I usually try any DAC under Ubuntu first.
I will give that a shot, the input is locked at 32/384 with the other two kernels I've tried. You can select the DAC but no sound when played. Although it seems to be playing the track, just no sound.
I can confirm USB works fine via Windows 10 and the drivers provided. I will fiddle around with Ubuntu and report back.
As I wrote have a look at my troubleshooting blog. Some hints:
Open a terminal:
aplay -l
## Now you'll see if the card is recognised.
lsmod | grep snd_usb
## will list the usb sound driver, if loaded.
## now start playback and run below command
cat /proc/asound/cardX/stream0
## replace X, with the card number for your USB DAC that's been shown in the aplay output
## In the "Playback" section of the output you should see "Status: Running"
## If that's the case. There's hope.
## Now you need to run alsamixer
alsamixer -c X
## X needs to be replaced again with the card number.
## move all volume controls - if there are any, all the way up.
## Settings will be stored at shutdown.
## E.g. The AQ Dragonfly also defaults to muted outputs!!
## in case there is no alsamixer, install it:sudo apt-get install alsa-utils

got Ubuntu 14.10 installed, works fine out of a clean install. Installing Kodi now on top of Ubuntu, going to do more fiddling ;)
I can verify Linux works now with Aune Audio S16
