issue...
And, - not sure if the OP has an USB DAC as the SoTM is USB only, - right?
I think that a lot of this conversation is regarding just improving the Squeezebox...

True, do not want to derail.
Yes, the SOtM only has USB output. Other than that it has gone way beyond my expectations.
The reason I stopped using to SBT's and will never look back is due to LMS. I just could not deal with that bloated POS anymore.
I won't ever use hardware that is locked into proprietary DLNA/UPnP software or control app.

My modest 8000 track library suffers no performance issues running an i7-860 quad core. If memory serves, you have a ridiculously large library.
edit: Please explain your perspective of *bloated*. In terms of memory, the Squeeze Server takes 120 MB, the tray app another 19 MB and each FLAC decompression process another 4 MB. While running two independent streams, that takes ~ 150 MB (I have 12 GB) and consumes under 1% CPU time. *Bloated* in exactly what way(s)?

My library is almost 8TB now, 300,000 or maybe 400,000? tracks.
Bloated in that it takes forever to load, has and is way too big for the task.
MiniMServer loads in 10 seconds, and scans my all new additions to the library in minutes flat.
Here is a secret..Logitech killed the SBT because of the endless resources needed for LMS customer support.
300,000 or maybe 400,000? tracks.
Apparently not a problem for those who simply use it to listen to music. Never needed any support.
...and is way too big for the task.
Yeah, that 150 MB is a killer!
He probably does not have it set up right. I take my Passport Drive with 1.5 TB of Music with me here in the Bahamas. Using a little tablet running LMS with windows 8.1, it is no problem to queue any track I want instantly.Cut-Throat

some have talked about long transitions from music library to radio stations or streaming apps.
I find zero waiting time switching from internet radio to XM or music files in any order.
