Looks good to me. Newest AKM chip. Comes with interesting advanced filters.
On HeadFi I read a short review,
claiming a very good USB interface that does not respond very much to USB filters (Audiobyte Hydra X+) changes. That's a real good message to me.
The S16 comes with XMOS AND a digital isolator AND a FPGA based FIFO reclocker. That might explain it. They seem to have put a lot of effort on that part.
Follow Ups:
I'm wondering if I can upsample the PCM inputs (AES, Optical) to DSD, not sure about that, the AKM chip says it can do it, but I can't read Chinese :)
The flow diagrams seem to suggest that DOP DSD64 is available thru the AES connections (presumably resampling) but the manual in English and Chinese doesn't show it in the pictograms.
Tel us when you find out!
thanks, DOP 64 seems to be supported for all digital inputs, with the exception of USB which can go to DSD 128, I think I made a good choice. I will let everyone know what I think after a few weeks with it, I plan on taking some time with it to see what I think. Also I am curious about the Linux support. It is really amazing what is possible with a few $10 chips and solid engineering.
Have a nice one!
"It is really amazing what is possible with a few $10 chips and solid engineering."
That's exactly what certain inmates and old school engineers/manufacturers ("You get what you pay for") don't want to hear.
And beside "a few $10 chips" they usually use pretty high quality resistors, capacitors, boards,....
Not to forget these folks (Aune/Gustard/Yulong) do a lot programming (XMOS/FPGA/DAC/drivers) for the money.
Let us know how it sounds.
Enjoy.
