You beat me to it!
A very sensible over view, of Pono, the NY Post and Gizmodo "articles" and even some fair criticisms.
Good job Darko.
Follow Ups:
is the streaming. My 30 Mbps Comcast can barely get thru' a low-def youtube video. There's zero chance I will trust that connection to play back my favorite music.
I also have no interest in streaming, but unlike the Pono haters I refuse to shit on it.
I will let the market speak. Just because it does not fit MY needs does not make it invalid. If it ends up being what people want..great..
But I with 6TB of music in my library, there is zero interest for me.
6TB - wow! I still have a good amount of room on my 2 TB drive (90-95% of my collection is CD rips).
"I refuse to shit on [streaming]."
Yes, I have no intention of pushing *my* objections re: streaming on anyone else. That would be supremely arrogant and ignorant at the same time!
My collection is 80% CDs, and 20% 24 bit (44.1/48/88.2/176.4/192)albums. I have about a dozen DSD albums.
btw, the new Rush remastering series will be the first time a major rock catalog will be remastered in 192 PCM AND for DSD download.
6TB - wow!
Indeed. My modest 200 GB library still offers 46 days of continuous content. And then there's the vinyl content I haven't ripped.
I'm not sure I could ever find thirty times that amount that I would want to play. :)
I'm a music obsessive. I also spin tape. But my thirst for music is never quenched.
