low quality, through poor bandwidth.
And, with the upcoming changes to net neutrality, things are going to be even worse.

corporate interests. The upcoming changes in the Internet by Comcast & their colluding corporate interests will be stifling & unequal for those unable to pay. What actually occurs is what is important. Already, collusion has brought very expensive, slow, and poor value for the money, - compared to many other countries. As we move forward, in addition to surveillance, sites and services will have to pay ISPs to be given more bandwidth, and faster service. In addition, 2nd tier competitors, or sites that don't pay, will be given low packet priority and slowed to a crawl. The death of the Internet as we know it is coming...

live streaming via the Internet, VS burning your discs to files, or purchase of files to listen to disconnected from the Internets.
1. Streaming quality files requires faster bandwidth, (bigger files).
2. More bandwidth is more expensive, and will exclude many people.
3. Streaming sites will have to pay ISPs for priority packet speeds.
4. Streaming sites will not be able to afford it, or afford large files.
Both the consumer, and the provider are going down.

You have that right. Streaming uses more total bandwidth, unless the customers only listen to their downloads once on average. But worse, the bandwidth is required in real time, not the case with a download. I have sold CD quality downloads to a customer in Asia using a dial-up line. This worked and it was faster than mailing a disk. Starting a download service required little or no capital investment, whereas a streaming service would have been beyond the budget of this small operation.
Because of the wheeling and dealing involved (think Netflix vs. Comcast) streaming is much more likely to be the domain of big players, and if they can somehow kill off downloads, that will further their cause. This will not benefit musicians and music lovers.
People who are interested in the future of quality audio should not be going down the streaming service route.

But worse, the bandwidth is required in real time, not the case with a download.Tony, some streaming services like Spotify allow for downloads for offline listening. With Spotify you can sync a maximum of 3,333 songs per device and stay offline for up to 30 days.
"If you have a Premium subscription, you can download your playlists for as long as you like. However, you’ll need to go online within the app at least once every 30 days. This is for two reasons:
- To keep track of the music you’ve played, so we can pay the music rights holders correctly.
- To ensure your subscription is still active. Each time you go online, the remaining time is set back to 30 days."

The storage, bandwidth and network speed has been increasing at a phenomenal rate. I see this continuing. You think otherwise?

Bandwidth in a data center or a home is cheap. The end points are cheap and the wires are cheap. Not so where there is a monopoly service involved. There are huge capital costs associated with providing service to everyone and paying off politicians, unions, etc... There is no Moore's law of politics. Even if it were just technology, the bandwidth for the last mile is going to cost considerably more than the bandwidth for the last 100 feet... Keep in mind in 10-20 years the costs of storage will have come down at least as fast as the costs of bandwidth. There will still be a 5 to 10x cost difference between downloads and interactive because of the reuse factor and the peak load factor.
The real problem with cloud based services is the likelyhood of an eventual dystopian future, where all the data of the entire society is centrally controlled in the cloud by the powers that be.

The phone company in my city is currently expanding their 1 Gigabyte internet service. Faster is the future. You are describing the present.I marvel at the 64GB thumb drive in my pocket. When I started in Computer Systems 40 years ago, I was changing disk packs that held 40K bytes of storage. They were the size of an Automobile Tire. That is 1.6 Million times increase in storage for something as small as my finger.
I for one, do not believe that technology has Stopped at where we are at today. I am optimistic enough to believe that things will get even better and at a faster rate! Technology is on our side. Luddites will take a back seat!

Various telecommunications companies in various cities and states have made various promises in the past as to delivering high speed Internet, fiber optic connections, etc... They have made these promises to government in return for various regulatory benefits. Many years later they have failed to deliver. My advice is not to count your chickens until they have hatched.
Where I live I have the fastest available DSL service, download at about 15 MBPS. This is adequate for now. Unfortunately, the upload speed is only about 1 MBPS which is useless for many things I would like to do. This company also provides fiber optic service to selected localities and that would be decent service. Unfortunately, they have no plans to offer this service in my neighborhood. They also have no competition in Internet service. There is no cable alternative because the cable system is owned by the same company as the telephone company.
This is all about politics, not technology.

That is what I have indicated in my earlier posts. Politics move a bit faster in todays world also. Would you have bet that gay marriage and Pot would be legal 5 years ago?

Economics....
Some rural places don't even have copper. AT&T isn't going to lay fiber if they're not going to get a return.
And... There's only so much you can do with EOC technology with DSL, if it's far away from a repeater.
I have a couple of stores that can't get better than (very expensive) 3/3 EOC DSL just because of their distance to the repeater.
Fast service is more expensive in the USA than most....
Finally, - again, - because of lack of interest, - (which isn't increasing), - the average schmoe doesn't even want to waste bandwidth on streaming "radio." But they will pay more for movies.
There is plenty of evidence to suggest that "better than .mp3" streaming is not a product that people want, is affordable, or will come about.
I wish that it weren't so, and I hope that you are correct.....

Others have proven to be quite comical."Transmission of documents via telephone wires is possible in principle, but the apparatus required is so expensive that it will never become a practical proposition."

Sometimes, I can watch a youtube video without it sputtering!
I'll keep my files, thanks, but good luck to you.
The future will be faster for sure.
