In Reply to: RE: how many amperes to power USB cable? posted by paco on January 20, 2015 at 07:33:57
1 amp is more than enough. The thing that will improve sound quality significantly is to use a fast responding power supply versus the phone charger AC adapter.

thanks! so i'll use the 1A output
as for a "fast responding power supply", any suggestion at a reasonable price,
easy to get, and with a USB output?
at present i'm using a power bank with 8000 mAh (i paid 35€ for it),
which seemed to me more than enough...
best, paco
The newer "V"-rated wallwarts from Cincon are excellent. Around $30.
thanks, but i don't find that unit in the Cincon website!
also, i recall you that i need a power supply with a USB 5V output,
AND one which can be plugged here in Europe (Schuko, 220V)
i'll be grateful for any further help about HOW to buy that unit...

in Europe I would look at the Farmell catalog on the web. The Cincon highest efficiency V series.
it looks fine, and has good audiophile reviews!
thanks again, but i didn't find any Cincon power supply with a USB output in that catalogue, or in any other catalogue;
if you are so kind as to give me a link to that particualr product i'd be very grateful indeed!
best, paco
First, you're not powering the USB cable but the device that is attached to it. If 1-Amp works then that's all you need. The device will draw the amount of power that it requires, no more.
Keep in mind that if you think the 'quality' of your USB power matters, then you probably want something better than your USB battery pack. You might think it's a 'clean' source of 5Volts but in fact, most of these battery powered USB chargers use a 3.7v lithium battery and a noisy switching boost converter. Will it actually matter in your setup? I don't know. Only YOUR ears will know.
i totally agree with you! BUT to be able to compare my present battery charger with something better, i need to actually make the comparison, and to do that i should BUY a better USB power supply; that's why i'm asking for advice as for WHICH one should i try, with a reasonable price, easy to get, etc.
i've read very good things about the iFi Micro, but its price is 199€!!
best, paco
