So it is not obsolete from a technical point of view
I am not an expert but i wonder if the fact to be of the parallel type instead than serial like the USB may have still some advantages, even if usb has got better of course.

The Mytek designer says Firewire is a better way.
I use a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter, Firewire 800-400 cable, cheap, works great,
on IMac 10.9.5.

I tended to think the same but now on the basis of the answers i have change my idea.
And i see also a general migration towards usb of all major manufacturers.
Maybe i will try a dedicated pci usb board soon.
But just out of curiousity.
