Quite right. Some Lab supplies don't cut the ice because they were designed for something else.
With a MAC mini, it doesn't matter what scope or instrument you have. The unit needs to be stripped and set up to monitor each voltage rail and the cpu feed. There is also very little that can be done to modify without considerable skill and know-how. Better to buy a modified one from a good vendor.
Any hardware mods needs to be accompanied by OS and software mods to get the best out of the system.

Tell us more about Lab power supplies Fred and what parameters are important to powering a music server. Give us some example specs that we should look for.
And while you're at it please tell us more about the Mac Mini. Since you've never owned one, this should be very interesting.
I have yet to see ANY lab supply where they spec the di/dt for the regulation.
