Don't like it at all in any PCM Mode, DSD is good, very detailed and precise, but lacks Bass.
I'll give it a couple of weeks, but thinking of getting Mytek, only $200 more at MD.
I use Audirvana, and PCM sounds fine through Mac C2500 Preamp Dac, in my main System.
Will report more later!
Follow Ups:
Can you provide particulars of how you set it up? Did you try it as a network streamer?
Hi, With an IMac, 10.9.5, fast Processor, 16 GB Ram, 3TB HD, I'm using the USB Dac, and tried the Coax for the Directv Genie Sat Box.
That sounded thin compared to the Line Out, tried every possible playback level, just didn't like the Coax.
I compared a Keith Jarret 24/96 album to the same files as DSD 2.8 Export from Audiogate.
The DSD was way more detailed and open. The 24/96 had smaller sound stage, and hard treble.
Other 24/96/192 Files played back Natively don't sound good to me at all, but do sound good thru the McIntosh Preamp, tho that's a different system.
The DSD playback is good, but I'm just not feeling the Love as yet!
It's 1/3 the price of NA 11S1, but I just can't manage that cost.
Will play it as much as possible to allow for possible break-in.
The Korg DS Dac 100 is woolier in sound, but more bottom end.
I'm not up on Network Streaming yet.
With 60 day return There's no hurry, and I don't want to give up on it too soon.
Any suggestions/comments?
Audio out is Fixed, from Menu.

To be perfectly honest, if you are not using it as a streamer, you are barking up the wrong tree.
If all you need is a USB DAC, there are cheaper more dedicated solutions.
The Marantz can accept iDEVICE, hard drives, Ethernet, and of course a computer.
But why in the world would you want to DIRECTLY connect a computer to something that was designed to play music stored on a network?
No, I have 2 inputs on my Integrated Amp, one for DVD player, one for Marantz 5008.
With the Coax out from Genie, I can listen to TV sound through the 5008 Coax Input.
But it doesn't sound nearly as good as the Line out, I have to swap cables for that.
The only streaming I would is for Internet Radio.
Truthfully, I have no idea how to stream my DSD Files.
The cheaper DSD Dacs I've seen advertised haven't got my interest.
Only the Mytek, $200 more.
What would you recommend for Dedicated PCM/DSD Dac?I misread your post-It has a USB connection, why wouldn't I use it?
I don't see the point of Streaming- will it sound better?
I don't want it for background music.

Ok. Got it.
With all due respect, your assessment of the 8005 is not fair, since you do not have the necessary skills to properly set it up. It is no different then setting up a Squeezebox Touch.
If you have no idea how to stream files via a network, then you would need to do your homework.
As far as cost effective, risk free, entry level DSD DAC that won't disappoint, the iFI Micro iDSD is killer. Next up would be the Marantz HD DAC1. I am sure there are a few more.
In the Stereophile review of the 11S1, Audervana was recommended for USB playback.
I have it setup correctly for that.
So my judgement of the sound ( so far) is correct.
What is the advantage of Streaming DSD?
The 8005 will accept USB Stick, bypassing the Computer.
I haven't tried that yet.

When that review was written, you could only playback dsd via the back USB port. Now ALL file types can be accepted via Ethernet.
What is the advantage of streaming DSD? Wrong question. What is the advantage of STREAMING period is the correct question.
The advantages, as have been repeated ad nauseum, are: No computer in the listening room, one central library can feed multiple system, isolation between source and DAC, and complete control of the music library via table or phone.
"What is the advantage of STREAMING period is the correct question."
Actually there are no advantages. Unless people want to claim false ones as below.
Pretty funny though.
"The advantages, as have been repeated ad nauseum, are: No computer in the listening room, one central library can feed multiple system, isolation between source and DAC, and complete control of the music library via table or phone."
False claims? You are full of shit. Pretty smug for a guy who does not list a system.
Does you stupid comment have any meaning.
Everything you said can be done with any system! Do you get a commission from Ebates each time you say the word streamer.
Bob C...for Clueless.
You have serious issues. Be a good little boy.
You streamer is not a computer don't worry. They do not have motherboards memory or operating systems.
Your SOTm-100 does not have a $20 arm board from a PogoPlug and a version of the VAMP software from Vortexbox.
Don't worry your be all better soon.
You are a exelent example of the statement, a little knowledge can be dangerous.
You have absolutely no experience with ANY of the products I have discussed or own.If you knew a thing about the SOtM you would know it runs on a custom version of Sonic Oribiter exclusive to them.
You are just a whining black cloud who likes to blather.

That Sonic Orbiter software is the platform that makes it look pretty and facilitates switching between applications.
Yes there are several additional apps. But do some research...
Otherwise it is exactly what I said.
It is a DIY project in a pretty box with some pretty software with it's in genesis freeware. Does no make it bad... But try and control yourself.
I understand you get off on pretty boxes that you spend good money for, but they are far from SOTA.
You read an article which got you started on your current crusade... But we do no have to bow down and start worshiping the almighty streamer for you...
Sorry... Still single purposes computers and many are just not really that good.
More blather.
"Sorry... Still single purposes computers and many are just not really that good."
And you would know this how having never, ever used any of them?
Digging yourself deeper with every post.
Common knowledge...
Please show me one streamer that does not have the same basic underpinnings as any computer. Please look at the $20 pogoplug board in your SOTM.
I understand the pretty boxes makes everything sound better.
Round and round you go.
Your posts will be ignored until you can demonstrate you have heard a single product I have discussed.
Enjoy you streamers... But...
one central library-Which is what?
I get that it is convenient, but I don't have smart phone or tablet.
So, is Computer Audio already dead?
I already have Korg Dac, want to improve on that.
It seems you don't have even the basic concept of network streaming, so I will move on.Which brings me back to my first premise..if you want to use a computer and USB DAC, which is fine, why did you try a network streamer? Again, there are USB only DACs strictly for use with computers that would be a better choice.
If you want to move "up" from the Korg, then that provides for different recommendations. The Marantz HD DAC1 I mentioned is a great choice, also the Benchmark DAC2, and I am sure others can recommend more. You need to say how much you want to spend.

The Korg has Line Out, I don't use headphones.
Mini Dacs, like the Korg weigh a few ounces, I want something with a real Analog out, transformer, the whole thing, like the Marantz. Streaming is just one feature.
I have a Sony Hap Z1 for the main system, streaming isn't important to me.
Understood. So you are not looking for a portable or mini DAC, or streamer DAC.
So, if I understand correctly, it must be DSD capable. You still need let people know your BUDGET. Otherwise you will get a lot of posts wasting your time.
OK, I'm going to find out what I need to get for Streaming!
I've already spent $1200, the Mytek is $200 more ( I wish I'd realized that sooner ).
I'm comfortable with $1500 total.
Thanks for your input!
MiniMax has two new DSD DACs I would take a look at them. Swap in discreet op-amps and I think they wound be killer. I have the non-DSD Minimax plus with Dexa op-amps and am extremely happy. The initial comments are that the new DACs are even better.
For what it is worth, forget the MyTek. Will grate your ears. Op Amp City.
