Glad you got your issue resolved. It's not a bad idea to keep a hardwired keyboard and mouse around even if you never use them. They sometimes come in handy for troubleshooting bluetooth pairing problems. My wife was preparing her old iPhone to give to her nephew so she mass deleted all of her contacts and calendar events thinking she had them on her iPad. This is not the right way to prep an iDevice you plan to give away! Upon subsequent automatic iCloud backups, it backed up her now blank iPhone contacts and calendar. I tried to restore via iCloud but there were no entries for those Apps! And since her iPad is sync'd with her iPhone those entries were missing on it too.
A quick call to Apple Tech Support solved the problem even though none of her iDevices are under warranty or an Apple Care support contract. The tech was able to restore her contacts and calendar remotely from a two day old backup after about 15 minutes on the phone. He stayed with us on the phone until we verified that it worked. Wife lost two days worth of contacts and calendar entries at most.... which amounted to nothing... and it saved her from having to manually type hundreds of entries into each App.
This was operator error on her part but a good backup to the automatic iCloud backup is to save an archive of your calendar and contacts to you local disk, or via hardwired iTunes backup via USB from your computer to the iDevice.
In any case, we are very pleased with Apple Support. Their support is consistently rated #1 in Consumer Reports and various tech journals by a large margin over other computer / smartphone / tablet companies.

using the Remote App on my Ipad Air with my Mini and for control of Itunes, in that APP, it shows the artwork everywhere except on the NOW PLAYING screen. There I see a grey placeholder with the album data but no album art. The first tech checked with his Ipad and got the same result.
They gave it to the engineering staff to see if this was an intended attribute or unintended. Oh, the 2nd tech said it happens on her Ipad as well.
They will be calling me to tell me the result of the question/problem.
I'll report what they say...anyone else have this issue?
I'm running iOS 8.1.1 on my iPad with Retina display which is a couple years old, not the newer iPad Air. My Mac Mini is running iTunes 12.0.1.26 on Mac OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion.
Remote App displays the Now Playing screen correctly after about a 1 second hesitation first displaying what you called the place holder image. However, it isn't working correctly on my iPhone 5s running iOS 8.1.1. This leads me to believe there might be a setting that we are not aware of, or possibly a bug somewhere under certain conditions.
Remote App on iPad. Touch small icon at top of screen just to the left of progress bar which launches into the Now Playing screen.
The "place holder" image appears for about 1 second before it changes to the album art. This is on my iPad. It stays with the "place holder"
when using my iPhone. I'm not sure why.
iPad Remote App showing proper album art in Now Playing screen about 1 second after the "place holder" has displayed.
Argghhhh! Hope to hear in a day or two...thanks, that was helpful to know.
at $20, - it's actually a bit pricey.....

on the Ipad as the only monitor you have turned on?
but for the IMAC(s) in our basement running Squeezebox server.
It works great both ways, always.
