Hi Abe,
> Sort of like reborn retro muscle cars in concept form at auto shows.
Kind of. Probably more like the new Mini and the new Beetle instead of true Retro.
It does come with a DAC build that can handle DSD up to DSD-512 (22.89MHz) and PCM up to 768khz/32Bit via USB.
The Amp part is pretty "Retro" though, all tube EL84 Push-Pull and it even has (by-passable) tone controls and a phono stage. Also has headphone outputs.
And it is no concept, but it will ship soon (< 1 month).
I am having one of the first sets from the pilot production run and we are fine tuning some aspects of sound and performance following feedback from the various people who also got one of the units from the pilot run.

At 20 bits, you are on the verge of dynamic range covering fly-farts-at-20-feet to untolerable pain. Really, what more could we need?

Very cool. Are you able to mention pricing yet and how it will be sold?

These mentions 2,000 smackeroonies for the system with speakers (and nice speaker cables which I also use ATM with the system), which is what I have been hearing from the marketing guys as well. The integrated Amp/DAC alone is supposed to go for 1,400 smackeroonies.
The 1st of November shipping date was missed, sadly.
Sales will be through the usual channels, so normal iFi dealer network, Music Direct, Amazon and so on.
Sorry, no thinly disguised direct (pre) sales at discount, no discounted direct sales of other kinds etc..

Gorgeous! A little pricey IMHO but it sure looks great with lots of 'built-ins'.
Not to be overly critical but does it have a preamp output? And I assume there's no remote control?
I was eyeing the PS Audio Sprout a while back which isn't in the same league as the iFi Retro (but it's not priced like it either) and I would probably have bought one, but no remote!
I'm sure these products are geared toward folks within arm's reach like on a desktop, or control via smartphone bluetooth requiring no remote.

Makes sense. No need to compete against and piss off the very partners you just recruited to sell the new product.
Good luck!
Hi,

Maybe. But then again, where did you see an equivalent DAC for much less than the price of the whole unit? Or indeed a decent EL-84 Amp for much less than the whole unit?
> Not to be overly critical but does it have a preamp output?
No. For sub-woofers please use speaker level.
> And I assume there's no remote control?
There is remote control for the Volume Control.
